I was there at 12.15 hoping to easily get one of the 1000 T-shirts availabale. Think about it; Thursday at 12.00 pm people are at work so good chances that wont be any crowds.
Of course I was wrong . I was lucky to see Apple logo from distance :D. Police also was involved
But I am happy that we got store in north-east of Scotland. Great for Aberdeen and another proof this City is not only about Oil&Gas.

that is INSANE! Is this the first Apple Store there? I am assuming most people in line haven't seen an Apple Store?

Just got back from it right now, a new centre opened and this is the first one in Aberdeen. The place is still crammed full with people :p

Also, many people were going to go there as there was something in the paper the night before about getting free stuff :p

Were there a lot of purchases? I just don't see a point in going on the opening day unless there are free items or I am going to make a purchase.

I'm not sure what it was like at the start, but they were giving our free stuff for sure. I couldn't tell you about the purchases, most people just liked to play with the macs :p

Also, after the 1000 t-shirts were gone, they made a proper line and people queued to get in :p

The whole mall was opening today, and apple/abercrombie were the main shops opening, so I guess that's why it was so busy.

I went at 2 and it was still really busy, no more tshirts though:( . I did see someone walking along the mobbed mall with a new iMac though so it wasnt a purely promotional day at least

Insane crowds, but it looks even more crowded because it's build in a shopping centre.

Is the Aberdeen store only one level too?

I love the Glasgow store, makes great use of the gorgeous building that Pier held for many years.

A fair point, but if you look at the bigger picture you can see why Aberdeen was chosen to follow Glasgow and get an Apple Store.

While Edinburgh is indeed Scotland's capital, it's not the "shopping capital" of Scotland, that honour goes to Glasgow mainly due to it being the largest city with more money per head.

Aberdeen was questioned by parts of Scotland who thought themselves "better suited" to receive an Apple Store, but the oil and gas quote you mentioned is actually THE reason why Apple opened in Aberdeen.

How many offshore workers live in Aberdeen for large periods of time? How many workers come from country wide to work in Aberdeen because of the oil and gas industries? I would bet my mortgage on the fact that Apple know it's a cash rich resource in Aberdeen, because the jobs in those industries are known to pay well.

Apple are smart, they know fine well that the industries in Aberdeen create well paid jobs, albeit dangerous ones, and people with money are the kind of people Mr Jobs likes to see in his stores.
