Opening big files in iOS 5

Its been a known issue that iOS 5 has an issue where it aborts inter app transfer of files beyond a certain size. There is one more topic on that in MR.

For those who don't know, in iOS 5, if u try to "open in" a file, of Size more than 500-600 MB, then it will not transfer the file to that targeted app. For example, I try to transfer an avi file from "perfect downloader" to "avplayer". It will just not. This issue has made my iOS devices uselss.

So my query is, has any solutions been found. I didn't find any help on google too. Just instances of people reporting the same issue.

Also, are there fixes available through cydia. Yes, i am jailbroken.
And, no it's not a jailbroken issue. Non jailbroken idevices face the same issues..

So if there are any updates please help. I really need to get this feature going in ios 5. I miss iOS 4 in this matter.

Unfortunately I haven't seen anything about this changing. Have you filed a bug report to Apple?

I find it so weird that iOS duplicates (or seems to duplicate, at least) a file when you do "Open In...".

I've noticed that if you do that commend multiple times your free space count gets smaller each time. And I'm not entirely sure when that space is freed up again.

Why not move the file to a globally accessible space where any app can open it as many times as you need? Security reasons perhaps?

That's the Sandbox concept to have each app it's own private file storage (folder); global sharing to be done via Dropbox or others.
I agree; it sometime tend to be disturbing; but not too much either.

iCloud will not help as each app has again it's own container.

Hey guys,

Finally some good news.

I was so affected by the issue that I tried to do a trying. Finally I cracked it. But you have to be jailbroken for this to work. Because u need ifile.

Ok here are the steps. ( in my case transferring file from perfect downloader to avplayer)

Go to applications folder in ifile. And find the perfect downloader folder. ( use show application names in ifiles) . It has the documents folder. Every app storing data has the document folder. Copy the concerned file from here and then paste in the documents folder of avplayer.

Likewise, u can use idevice as a storage device with the help of ifile. Now I can just copy paste to any app I want.

It's like doing the same thing that iOS does for us. But manually. If u bookmark the folders on ifile. U can do this in as less as 4 steps.
