Opening Certain Files

Hi, I'm running the newest iBook on Mac OS X Tiger, and when I goto download programs such as AIM 4.7, it downloads as a .bin file, when I click on it, it tries opening it with Quicktime. What do I do? And how would I go about installing the program.

It sounds like you downloaded the Linux version of AIM. Why aren't you using iChat? I comes installed with the Mac. Otherwise...

Thats where I downloaded it from. If you click upgrade, which is what I do, it downloads a file called aim.bin, and I have no clue how that installs AIM, it definitely isn't a Linux version.

You need stuffit expander. Link:

It was pre-installed on Macs up until Tiger, and so there's a bit of confusion surrounding it. The .bin file is a compressed file, like .zip. Most Mac programs now come as disk images (.dmg) or zip files (.zip, .gz, etc), which OS X can handle natively, but there are still some Stuffit files floating around.
