On the Parallels website, I noticed a function called SmartSelect, which allowed you to open files on your Mac partition with Windows programs, without any kind of drag-and-drop, copying, etc.
My question is, how well does this work? If for instance I set Word documents to be opened in Word 2007 under Parallels, would this be as fast and seamless as setting them to be opened in Word 2008 for Mac (I don't have Office for Mac and I heard the Windows version is better, so I'm planning to get Office 07 and Parallels - I can get a very large discount on the Windows version of Office and Vista itself from my school)? Or is this function slow or flawed in some other way?
Also, does VMWare Fusion also have this functionality? In general I've heard better opinions about Fusion than Parallels, but if Fusion wouldn't allow me to launch documents in Windows programs directly from the Finder, then I'd prefer Parallels.
If Fusion also has this, which of the two would be better?
Also, do both those programs allow you to boot Windows from a Boot Camp partition? I would like to install Windows for two purposes: Office 2007 and gaming. I would like to play games in Boot Camp and use Office through Parallels/Fusion. Is this possible? Would Windows then have to be installed on a FAT32 partition, or is NTFS also alright?
