Opening Multiple Apps from Dock

Hey Guys, I am wondering if there is a way to have a link in the dock that will open up multiple files with one click?

For example an Icon on my dock that when I click it an Application and a web page would open at the same time.

I have not used apple script before so if the answer stems from that I would appreciate some help..

Having your browser open a webpage from your dock is easy. In Safari, click on the little picture by the URL and drag it to the dock. You'll get a little spring looking thing on the dock and when you click on that it will open up your browser to that page.

What I meant is an icon that will load 2 things at the same time like...a web page and itunes for example

I think there are a couple of ways of doing it.

You can use a shell script, or an AppleScript, or probably also use Automator.

This way might be fun for you and is not very complicated, and takes advantage of a new Tiger feature.

First, make a folder somewhere (anywhere) that will hold aliases to all the programs you want to open. Second, make aliases to the apps you want to open in the folder. You can do this by dragging them to the folder from your Applications folder while holding Cmd-Option.

Second, open Automator. Drag the folder into Automator, and then drag the Finder -> Open Finder Items action in next after it. Now just File -> Save As, change the file type to Application, and save it. Then put this file you just saved in the Dock. When you run it, it will launch all the apps in the folder. When you change the apps in the folder, it will automatically run whatever other aliases you have put there.

You might also save a version as a Workflow so you can make another folder for another set of programs.

I did this and it just opened the folder with the two alias in...

Actually skrew that...I added the apps and files instead of the folder and it does what I need now.....Thanks again mkrishnan for your clear instructions Appreciated

Now that I think about it, that makes sense. Sorry about that. But hopefully it's happy, and you can gloat about using Automator!
