In case no one has already tried it, Opera GX 89 works well on El Capitan.
Having recently switched my daily driver from an underperforming 2011 Mac mini (caused by the combination of High Sierra on a spinner) to a 2011 iMac, I discovered Opera GX by accident.
Promoted as a “gaming browser” - whatever that means, turn off the vaporwave default theme and enjoy the extra features of sidebar integrated social media and streaming music players - mine is configured with Messenger, Twitter and Spotify - very handy and spares a few CPU cycles.
Also of note is the pop out video option - so you can pop out a scalable Youtube clip and switch to another tab at the same time.
