I am curious to know what everyone's thoughts of the camera quality of the 10.5 iPad Pro camera quality? There's a lot of attention for the iPhone X camera quality, but I am wondering how does 10.5 iPad Pro camera stack up with smartphone cameras?

I was a photojournalist for 40 years and used every type of film, film cameras and ended my career using Canon's EOS 1D Mark IV and after retiring in 2016 I took my iPad Pro on an Alaskan cruise and was really amazed at how good the cameras was and is. I use it a lot now for a lot of situations for my blog (I have purchased a Canon 7D for more difficult situations). Of course it doesn’t handle movement too well in low light and the extreme depth of field can be a pain when you are trying to be creative (though helpful in many situations) and did I look like a dork holding this thing...well, yes. But I continue to be impressed with it and glad I have it.

Are you gonna be that guy who takes pictures with a huge iPad?!

I don't think I have had any wierd stares so far. However I have only used it minimally for out of studio photography.

Appreciate your response since I am avid photographer myself. I am wondering if I should ditch my Sony Alpha, but I can't help but notice a bit of moray in the video of iPad. Either way it seems like a good casual camera to have around.

I think what's more interesting than the camera is that the iPad Pro 10.5 screen is ideal for viewing photos.

It's a shame Instagram doesn't make an iPad app.

The camera . . . I mean, that's all in where you stand. Do you think Ansel Adams would have wanted a better camera, or a better photograph?

I know this is not exactly relevant to the thread, but the iPad camera is the one feature on iPad that I never use. I would not have an issue if Apple decided to remove it, as it’s not much of a useful tool to me, compared to how I would use my iPhone for more intensive purposes.

I’ve never used the back camera on my iPad.

Its not a camera that will give you the full features of a real camera but it will work. I find it hard sometimes just holding it and trying to take a photo. The images really look great but I wonder if you try to print large images will there be some loss in quality? I know that printing 8x10s its get a little ehh but 4x6 images look fair.

This really goes with any mobile device...image quality is good enough so that you can post on the web or small print.

I se the iPad camera for convenience. It’s great to photograph objects or scenes just to remember them or to explain something. if I’m making a report I can quickly take a picture of something to insert in the report.
