So, I know you all are probably sick of these, but I am 50/50 on when to get my new imac. I am in the market for an imac and cant spend the 2k plus for the i7. I am planning on buying from amazon with prime and getting whatever I get for a considerable amount less as it is cheaper, no tax, and $4 over night shipping. (1950 is the absolute max budget so a i7 imac and mac pro are out of the question)
So here is where the debate is.
First question. How long does it take amazon to get new machines once apple releases them. 1 week? 3 weeks? 1 month?
I am a photographer and I do cinematography as well, so I need as much power as possible. I run CS5, Final Cut Studio and AE/MOTION on a daily basis. My tax refund is being deposited tomorrow so it should be available tuesday. I have projects that are sitting and waiting for me to work on as I am on a mac mini and a $150 cheapo lcd monitor.
Other than adding thunderbolt, will there honestly be that much of an improvement. especially with the video card (I dont game.) I mean, thunderbolt is great right now, but I dont want to drop 3k on a raid that only handles 400gb. My average photshoot is 40gb+ and video is 5d2 HD video...so ove 100gb+ on video projects.... SSD raids arent feasable for me right now.
would you pick up a 27" 2.8 i5 quad or would you wait for the next gen assuming it will be released next week? (keeping in mind I have current projects on hold)
