I upgraded my mac mini 09 to 4GB on ram, and wanted to upgrade the hard drive at the same time, but could not decide which one to choose, so I left the stock 120GB in. I am still in the same boat and need some direction from you peeps as to which one choose.

250 - 320GB is the size I need.

I would like to go for a 7200rpm drive but am worried about the increase in temperature and vibration. I have read that people use some kind of temperature control program, which I don't really want to use. I just want to put it in and not have to worry about the fan coming on a lot etc.

Will a 7200rpm drive be noticeably faster than a 5400rpm? Open files quicker? Convert movies faster? Is there any test about with minis with both these 2 different speed hard drives in?

Or a 5400rpm drive, which is dual platter (I have no idea how you can tell if one is though), as read that dual is faster than a single platter.

Some guidance would be a great help :D

Thanks. Only a few people have commented though in those threads. I would like to have more opinions of people who have already upgraded their minis, and which have been running 7200rpms for a few weeks. :D:D

And also about a dual platter 5400rpm:confused:rpm

Does a dual platter just come in to play on 320GB and above drives? So on a 320GB for instance there is 160GB on each platter, making 320GB?

So with 2 platters it is actual the same as a 5400rpm 120GB drive but produces faster results because it has an extra platter????:confused:

I know nothing about this, any help would be great. :D
