Hi all, wanting some feedback for a particular situation. I have an iPhone 8 currently on 14.8. There is an impending jailbreak coming for iOS 15.1 (this is not a post to debate anything related to jailbreak including merits, drawbacks, etc.). Looking for opinions on 15.1 proper as I can use the delay OTA method to update specifically to it. I've heard it is glitchy and not kind to older devices. Thanks for the input.

You cannot update to 15.1 anymore.
15.3.1 is the only version that is currently signed by Apple, so up- and downgrades to any other version than 15.3.1 is impossible.

This is not true my friend. Apple has a 90 day period after the expiration of unsigned iOS versions for devices that are "supervised". Supervision is meant for enterprise users but has been adapted by the jailbreak community for our purposes. In fact, you can become supervised without a jailbreak using Apple Configurator 2. But I digress. I'd like to know more information about 15.1 and how well it works for iPhone 8.

Wow, that supervised mode stuff is funky. Good look with that, but to each his own.

Back to the topic: iOS 15.1 works very well on the iPhone 8.

I’ve read about the glitches. In your experience it wasn’t too bad?

completely different device but 14.1 to 15.1.1 on my 12 pro has been nice actually overall

will probably do my SE2 from 14.8 to 15.1 next but dunno when

If you dont have a battery case, I'd say wait + see what people say about battery life most of all since its an old device and a small battery in that guy

Thanks. Any opinion on 15.1 as that’s the version I’d move to?
15.1 was awhile ago, maybe not the greatest battery usage is the only thing that comes to mind... I had some screen touch issues the first few releases (you touched the screen and it wouldn't do anything and tap to wake wouldn't always work) but they were random and corrected with later updates..
