Planning on buying some type of airpods for a christmas present for somebody and wondering if it's worth paying double for the pros vs the last gen airpod standards? I have the standard 2.0 version and think they are fine, my wife has the 1st gen and think they're fine so I'm heavily leaning toward that but wanted some opinions from people who have both.

They would be used for basic walking around, home use, occasional light gym use and the person I'm buying for uses the standard apple wired earpods for everything.

I think for most people the standard, non-wireless charging model is fine. Most people don't listen that critically, and the original generation are a bit less finicky to use than the Pro model with interchangeable eartips that will eventually have to be replaced, etc.

Also much less expensive to replace when they inevitably lose one of them.

I have all 3 versions. Its personal regarding sound and its personal regarding fit. I Love and am using the APP's but I may have to send them back because fit it a struggle for me.

I haven't tried APP, but I returned my Powerbeats Pro as they didn't sound as good as $25 no-name bluetooth earbuds I bought off Amazon. Also, the buttons are hard to press at times when exercising. No idea why they don't have touch controls at $250. But they were very comfortable. Wanted to love them but just too many negatives for the money.

But if I'm going to spend that much money again then I'm going to look real hard at the Sennheiser Momentum's. Seems like every review I've seen says they are absolutely the best in class.

I’ve had the 2nd gen with the wireless charging case and now the AirPods pro. The extra money for the wireless charging case is not worth it. I only have to charge mine 1-2 times a week so plugging them in is not a big deal. Stick with the base model or upgrade to the pros. For me, the noise cancellation, water resistance, and better click controls are more than worth the price to upgrade to the pros. But, if all the person you are buying for will be using them for is walking around and some light workouts, the base pair are probably fine. They’re not officially water resistant like the pros. But I see people use them at the gym all the time and nobody ever seems to have a problem.

As a person with ears that the original AirPods never stays in and thus giving me crappy sound, I’d prefer the Pro over the standard ones definitely.
