opinions on my band's album art!

hey! i would put this in the photoshop/tablet drawing thread but im kinda looking for some opinions. our band is recording our first album, which means we need to create some kind of album art. our drummer came up with the idea, i had some time today so i put it together. anyways shoot some opinions!

oh by the way, since it is a rough. the background color is for instance.. although i do kinda like it.
the "insert title here" is just a placeholder for where the actual title will be put. we havent come up with it yet..

Personally, I love the style, but it seems too framed by the scratches around the outside edge. I'd 86 those and run that coat rack off the frame. Also, the door is bugging me. It seems to be open too much. It's swung back into the wall (which I didn't notice at first, probably because of the perspective of the door).

I'd say it's a pretty darn good start. Just toss around a few more ideas and see where it takes ya. Good luck!

Does the band line up include a trombone?

I like it. However, I would either add a single color (maybe a letter in red or the rat in blue) or go completely monotone/greyscale. The subdued blue can be hard on the eyes and many people cannot see the stains on the image in blues, whereas they could in greyscale (rods and cones and all that jazz). Just a thought.

yeah were a ska band, which is why we have a trombone.
the number on the door is actually the date of our first gig. april 13th. umm i needed a number for the door..

I also think TEG suggestion about the rat in red might look pretty cool-- add a pop of color for something!

I like the frame, but it would probably look a little cleaner without it--

I actually think "insert title here" is kind of a cool title for the album.

I'd drop the hat down so it looks like it is hanging off the bar, it just a little awkward and you cannot assume there is a small rising bar there.

Yeah, not really sure how the hat would hang like that, even with the second bar below it. Hats, when hung, actually tilt the other way. You have it like it was on someone's head looking down like "\", but it should be wayy down like "/". But, I could be wrong. I also agree with another earlier post that the door opens into the wall. And I would love to see a warm color like bright red or hot pink and maybe yellow brighten and shake things up.
