And yes, I know that nobody can make up my feminine mind for me, so please understand that this is a new Apple experience for me. I am finally making the leap and getting a 38mm Sport as my Christmas present. Best Buy has them on sale.

I am torn between colors. I was initially going to get the gold Sport. But, am wondering if a different color would be better because my intent is to go nuts and buy all sorts of different bands to change the look.

I think the most versatile color for customizing with bands is silver. Although the space gray looks pretty great with every color I've seen in bands. For a sport model I'd recommend either the silver or space gray.

I'd go with silver. Also, would you consider the stainless steel? I had the sport in space grey and found it more casual and didn't think it went as well with some of the bands I had in mind, so I ended up exchanging it for the stainless steel and have not regretted it one bit.

I think the yellow/rose gold look quite cheap. I personally have a space gray sport and like it but really wish I'd paid that bit more for a stainless steel one

if you want to go crazy buying bands then I have to echo: get silver.

I bought the space gray sport because... well I liked it better.... but I'm limited with band options. so far I only have official sport bands because for the longest time I couldn't find a space gray adapter (apparently there are some out there now that are decent) BUT I also have not found more than one or two bands that have space gray (or even black) buckles.... and my anal-ness won't let me put a band with a silver buckle on my space gray sport! (I do have silver pins on my sport bands... but they are tiny and not noticeable like a buckle would be)

soooooo that is why I recommend silver for you (and I think the gold sport looks cheap *ducks*)

+1 on SS.

There is no easier match for any watch band than SS, which is also reason it is still the most dominated material for all mid-high-end traditional watch.

But had a violent reaction to the watch, caused an enormous bruise and hematoma where the back of the watch sat on my wrist. And no, I wasn't wearing it wrong or too tight. Sadly, I had to return the watch.

Sports are just simple composite (plastic) back, but SS/Gold both has ceramic coating (pure ceramic coating is made of clay, not sure Apple one is pure clay or not, or there is other material mixed) on top of plastic back. If your skin reaction is due to direct contact to plastic, you might want to try SS. You have 14 days to test it out see does ceramic coating on top of plastic help.
I don't think there is anyway to know anyone would or would not have skin react to the plastic back of sports, or will react to ceramic coating back of SS/Gold or not, unless you try it out.

I know some people are also react to prolong heart sensor exposure. You could also test it out by disable it in "Watch app/Privacy/Motion & Fitness/Heart Rate" for couple days, see will reaction go away.

If I really want AW but have reaction to Sports's plastic back, I will get a SS, turn off heart rate for couple days. If skin still react to ceramic coating, then that's end of story. If not, turn on hear rate and test for couple days again.

Thank Jasie. I absolutely believe in hindsight that it was the constant haptic action of the heart monitor that caused this reaction. I've worn watches all of my life and have never had a reaction. I do have rather think skin and very small wrists so I think that combo did it. If I do try again, I will go with the SS.

The HRM isn't haptic, it uses green light to reflect off the blood vessels in your wrist and detect the pulse waveforms. There's no way that could cause a bruise.

Then perhaps you can postulate what might have done this. It didn't itch or burn. It took about 10 days to disappear. No trace of it now.

This could also be irritation to plastic back cover of AW Sports.

Wore it looser for one whole day. Turned off auto heart sensor. At the end of 10 hours, redness on my wrist. Not the bruise caused by the Sport, but certainly a reaction. I believe my skin is too thin and sensitive and the watch does get warm. I don't think the watch is for me.

However, I am really interested in this. Granted, it won't be able to do some of the things the watch can do while worn on the wrist but I am enchanted with this option.

This is the watch I wear every day. I've worn it form10 years with no problems. It has a stainless steel back. It is fitted and sits still on my wrist, doesn't twist and turn or slide up and down my arm.

Did you ever wear any other smart watch with heart rate sensor or fitness tracker with heart rate sensor?
If not, it is possible you just allergy to how heart rate sensor is activated on the skin, or direct skin touch with light/heat in general. In this case, it is really not Apple's issue.

Added: Try turn off Fitness & Heart rate, also turn off wrist detection, and wear it for couple days, see will rash go away. If it does, your skin are sensitive to light/heart direct contact. You will probably can't never wear any smart watch or fitness tracker with heart rate sensor use constant light/heart direct contact with skin.

That's strange. I never notice mine getting warm.

This could mean two things, I suppose. A faulty watch? If you thought the sport was hot also, though, the chances of two faulty watches is less. You say you have thin skin so you might be more sensitive to it than others

So you think it's more of a burn than an indentation from the weight of the watch?

I'm not sure how the heart rate sensor could cause any kind of irritation.

Has a nickel allergy been mentioned in this thread yet?
