I'm having trouble getting my audio from an XBOX through the Optical Audio Input to play through to the Line Out port.

The Input tab of the Sound Preference is set to Digital Audio in and is receiving a signal on the meter but no audio plays through to the speakers plugged into the line out port.

Is there a setting I need to adjust or a program I can download?

Thank you ThreeTwo,

The program LineIn worked, but there was major delay and the audio was dropped 2 octaves. I'm going to keep looking, but, if you know of any others, let me know.

Don't mean to resurrect an old thread. Buuuuuuut. I'm looking to do exactly the same thing and wondering if there are any solutions.

Rogue Amoeba's LineIn app would have been my suggestion too, but that sucks that it's 2 octaves lower and delayed :S

A bit more background on why are you trying to do this for, would be helpful.

IMO, any software-based setup will have some noticeable latency and will somewhat change the audio a bit.... but I agree LineIn is too slow... (it a bit old sw).

how about soundflower (also free)? have you tried it?

Also, recently I bought Boom, and one of its benefits is that it becomes an audio input and output, so you might do some tricks with that. Great app, totally worth the $5.

Depending on what you want to do, WireTap Anywhere may help, but that's a bit expensive for $129.

Finally, if you are trying to play your xbox in your (lets say, Apple LED) display - hence you must go through the computer - I'd recommend using elGato's EyeTV (box or USB Hybrid) as a bridge, and that'd be better for the A/V sync.

cheers!
