Hi all.
So it appears that Monterey has a problem with optical disk drives?

Running Big Sur my Asus SDRW-08U8M-U and my Pioneer DVR-XU01T are recognised. Under Monetery they don't even show up. Does anybody Know what kext or other system file is used to enable these things ?

Thinking I can copy from Big Sur to Monterey to effect a fix.

Thanks.

Are you sure they aren’t showing up? Did you check the Finder sidebar? Do you have “show mounted discs on the desktop” enabled?

Dead sure. The USB drive doesn't even show up in System Profiler. Works on a real Windows box though.

Yeah I’ve used random usb opti drives over the years and it’s always worked. Could it be a power draw problem? Are you using any adapters (eg usb a-c)?

It's a USB drive and I've tried a USB to dual USB lead as well as a USB C to USB mini lead also. No dice.

The drive consumes less power than the USB scope I sometimes attach to it which makes me think power draw isn't the problem?

Is it working with any computer right now?

It is, works on my Mini over USBC and my Mac Pro over a single USB A. My MacBook Pro 16" is not interested.
They are on High Sierra and Big Sur respectively.

Odd. The USB port doesn't make any difference and with the same lead I'm getting nothing.

Just some thoughts, may or may not help...

The MPB 16" that has a problem...
Did the drive work ok with it BEFORE Monterey?
Using an earlier version of the OS?

Could you try a "Y-cable" ?
That is, 1 USB plug on the drive end, and TWO USB plugs on the "computer" end?
Some Macs don't supply enough power using only one port.

Is there any way you could try a POWERED USB hub, then connect as such:
Mac --> USB hub --> drive
???

They mentioned trying the pigtail already. Doesn’t appear to be a draw problem.
