Optical Drive Suggestions?

We sometimes play dvds etc on our iMac. Occassionally, especially on the older ones, the DVD gets stuck and we have to go through reboots to get an ejection. Someone suggested getting an external optical drive and playing them through that.

I have no idea where to start to even research what to buy? And will they work speed wise to show dvds?

Can someone point me in the right direction.

You can use any external DVD drive connected via USB or Firewire and they will suffice to play back video DVDs, as the maximum transfer rate of such is a bit over 1MB/s.

They cost from 35 USD to 70 USD.

can you do blue ray? I know macs don't do it without some sort of conversion, but wondering if they will play them
