Optimal FanControl settings?

Hi People,

I've been trying to find out online what Lobotomo's FanControl optimal settings should be. No luck! The preference pane is confusing, with "lower threshold" and "upper threshold". What is that supposed to mean? Is this the highest and lowest the utility will allow the computer to get? Obviously not, as it doesn't turn out that way when using the app. And it's got a graphic showing *something* but I just don't get it.

Anyone know where to get documentation for this app? Or have you tweaked it to suit you? The Lobotomo site doesn't give any clues.

I would base my settings on apple's current specs. They've done a lot more research on the issue than anyone here and have the fan speeds set for certain reasons. That being said, I wouldn't mess with any fan apps.

Remember, no matter what speeds you choose, altering the fan speeds will be a trade off. Cooler temperatures doesn't mean "better"....it's a complicated thing.

Well, my MBP has been getting TOO hot, and had one incident where the display started bugging out because of it. So I'd rather experiment with a cooler computer than a DEAD computer.

set the bottom threshold at 2300..

at least thats what i have in smcfancontrol.

Keeps it at 51-52 doing word processing, surfing, and iTunes!

u should try smc fancontrol...ive been using it for some time now, and i can definitely vouch for its ease of use. Give it a try, it might solve ur problem.

I'd take it back to apple if you're still under warranty. That shouldn't happen.

So I've set the "base speed" to 2300. The "lower threshold" is set to tempature, not rpm, so I left that at 40 C.

set the bottom threshold at 2300..

Good point. If it does it again i'll have too. Oh god and my warranty is almost up. I've already had this MBP replaced once so I don't want to have to do it again. Argg!
