I have Drive 10 and I was able to optimize my hard drive before I loaded OS X Panther. I think it has something to do with Journaling. Without erasing the drive and starting over and turning off Journaling, are there any Optimizing Programs are able to do that?

It looks like right now everything requires you to turn off journaling. I've heard that Panther tries to keep the drive from fragmenting itself though so you might not have a HUGE need for a defrag. It couldn't hurt though.
Why is there no reason to optimize, Fragments will be created when you delete files and install new files.
Sonofslim, thanks for posting that link, we are upgrading to OS X on our workstation G3 but my boss didn't think we needed to put it on the other G3 we use as a "server". It just sits there as servers do and holds our customer files. There is my G3 (soon to be a G4-800 via Sonnet ZIFF CPU upgrade) an old UMAX S900 clone, an HP running K2 pro, all connected to another PC running NT 4.0 via ethernet (PlateStream RIP). My thoughts, after reading the link document, are that putting OS X on the "server" would help in file access and not having to optimize all the time.
PS we're putting new 80gb HDs in each of the G3s. I'm running OS 9.2.2 in them now and am looking forward to OS X at work (been using it for over a year now at home)

I happen to use Cocktail & System Optimizer X, it seems to do a good job. Downloaded it on the recommendation of others.

I have Tech Tools 3 that I used on 9 it always seemed to find problems to fix that Norton Disk Doctor didn't.

Journaling allows the computer, if a power loss were to occur Journalling basically allows the drive to restore the point just before the power loss. It is little more comlicated than that but it works.
As far as how I like Drive 10 I think it is a great program, but be advised that if you get 10.3 (Panther) and enable Journaling you will not be able to Defrag your hard disk. There are however good expensive optimizers for Journaled systems, I dont know who makes them but they do exist. So to answer your question I like it alot, I think there is room for improvement but so far it is the best disk defrag I have ever used next to Norton and Windows Disk Defrag (which Sucks)

If you dont have Panther than there is nothing to worry about as far as defraging. But if you are upgrading to Panther and want to defrag, before you install you have to make sure that Journalling is not installed because all the optimizing programs I have noticed cant optimizing journaled (not yet anyway). i hoped this answered your question.
I have Panther Installed 10.3.2, new to X as of January 26th. Having Backups Pro Software for X, that does and automatic backup when there is a power outage and then shuts down the computer. Because of Folding I'm running my Mac 24/7, with a cool down after 7 - 8 days per MrMacman.
Also wondering about the affect on Folding with above. Thinking also about software mentioned in yours and my post above.
I am not sure what you are asking, I totally lost but I think i will say what I think you are asking. If you did not select Journaling under Mac OS X extended (journaled) the it will not upgrade that, but Journaling is constatly measure the programs that are active and if any have a problem they restore them to the state that they should be.
