Optimizing Photos Changing my iPhoto Files

My iPad 3G arrived on Friday and it's awesome! I just have one small issue that I need your help on solving.

I did my original sync and pulled in the most recent event. iTunes stated it was doing optimization and it pulled in the files. Everything looked great and I had no issues.

Today, I happen to go into the same event using iPhoto on my Mac Pro. It now shows "Show Original File" in addition to "Show File." So, I compared the two and it appears that the optimization affected my iPhoto images (please see attached file, the 6.6MB file is the original and the 5.7MB file is what is now being shown in iTunes after the optimization). It appears that the file size is now smaller and the color profile has changed.

So my concern is that the optimization process is changing the images being displayed within iPhoto and not just creating a lower resolution for the iPad. Am I wrong? Has anyone experienced this as well? I want to understand what is happening before I try and sync more events to the iPad.

Any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated!

Can u see a difference between the 2 files when u compare them?

From your pictures. You have 2 folders. A "modified" folder and an "Original" folder.

The synced files are most likely being kept in the modified one, therefore leaving your originals untouched.

No, I really can't tell the difference. The synced files are coming from different areas. Some of the files have been modified and others are pure originals.

I appreciate the quick responses. However, this looks like an issue separate from the iPad optimization. I just noticed the dates on the file info, which clearly show that something happened upon import on April 19th (the iPad just arrived on Friday so it can't be the culprit).

Might be something to do with the way iPhoto treats the images from this specific camera. I went through another event with pictures from this camera and it is the same thing.

Sorry for jumping the gun here -- I was struggling to find an answer for the last few hours and neglected to simply look at some other files in iPhoto.
