Hello, I wonder if anyone has a bit of advice.

Since moving to C1 I have been extremely happy, for everything but the frustrating inability to tell the exporter to keep below or above a certain file size. This as easily achieved in LR.

Aside from the ridiculous advice of using the quality slider and making random guesses, or trying to go with the very poor 'estimate' it gives you, how are other people coping with this limitation?

I think the only option would be to export all at full size and then run the exported jpegs though another app with I can use for more granular control of file sizes. Anyone got any ideas on a simple programme that will do that?

I'm finding it so frustrating, several agencies I use require specific higher and lower limits for uploads.

Cheers.

I know some folks use jpegmini, which has a plugin for capture one.

I'm not sure if i got it. Do you want to set a specific size (in Kb) in export dialog or do you want to set a specific size (in px) in the long edge?
You can already set px limits, I want to be able to set maximum file size limits (kb)

Did you try the following: After selecting the pic(s) you like to export..
Click on export>open export recipe>create a new recipe or use an existing one> open format and seize>scale>select what you want> etc..
I hope this is what you were looking for..The beauty of this is that you can create different export recipes to your needs..
File size is defined by what you select ..

Thank you for that. Yes - I do that already. I was just looking for a more direct way of saying - right C1, these files need to be 8mb in size.

I love export recipes it’s very flexible - except for this one aspect. I can only guess every time. I just want C1 to decide what’s best within the file size I specify. I’m used to it after many many years of lightroom is all, I suppose I’ll get used to guessing with more accuracy. I’m only a few months into C1 so far.

It’s the only thing I miss from lr and the only thing I have perceived so far as a limitation for my needs with certain projects.

Yes, this is a convenience feature frequently missed by people moving over from Lightroom. I see it all the time in the various help forums where I try and assist. Oh, and history panel. I guess that's important to Lightroom users as well. The good thing is, if it's important enough to enough people AND it's something that fits in with their opinion of how the product should operate, the capture one team will add it to the backlog. I've seen that with before/after, dehaze, pano/HDR, etc.

The "File size" estimate in the Summary section of the export area is usually wrong, but I've not found it to be wrong by an order of magnitude. Of course, that could vary by image if you have a large number of adjustment layers, for example, so agreed that some sort of "I can sacrifice a bit of image quality for file size limitation" could be useful in the situations you describe.
