Is there any solution to the constant orange dot icon in the menubar when using an EQ app like SoundSource? It's always on in the menubar, that's kind of annoying but not the end of the world. But it's also constantly on when watching a movie on a totally dark full screen app, and that is kind of unwatchable.

I mean, imagine a totally dark scene, and then a bright orange dot would be visible in the top right corner. This would kill an OLED display in no time like this.

Do you know any solutions? It started with Sonoma for me.

Looks like this in menubar:

And like this during movies:

There’s a small orange dot in the top-right corner when an app is accessing your camera or microphone. Maybe you could deny access to whatever apps are accessing the camera and/or microphone.

It's not accessing the mic, just doing EQ on the audio. The app is SoundSource.

sudo killall coreaudiod seems to help until I re-open the app.

It’s accessing the mic. That’s what the dot represents. Open control center and it will say “apps using microphone” and give a list of triggers for the dot. It’s privacy protection so apps don’t listen to or watch you without you knowing. If you don’t expect or want your eq app to use your mic that dot is there to let you know it’s happening so you can act on it like taking back permissions

I wrote to the developer. They definitely cannot access the mic (the Macbook is closed), but their driver might trigger something which shows it like accessing the mic. Anyway I at least found an app to change the color:

They can even if they are not.
Why not just revoke mic permissions?
