Just received an email from Orange notifying me that my iPad MicroSim has been posted to me. Anyone else had a similar email?

Was just about to order one, but now it's asking for Direct Debit bank details.
I don't want to sign up for the service, just want the sim so that in the future I can choose which service I want (O2/ORANGE)

Did you have to sign up too?

I wanted to know this too. I don't want to sign up for a contract, I only want a payg sim... but that option doesn't seem to be available?

Went through with the sign-up and there is no charge or anything. It just 'activates' the sim card for use, then when you put it in the iPad, it should work.
I think the same goes for the pay-as-you-go but I can't work it out either.

They don't do a PAYG option. It is all postpay, but not strictly contract as you pay afterwards for only what you requested (plus any excess charges).

The downside of Orange's offer is that if you exceed the allowance for what you have purchased you will pay 5p/MB in excess charges and I don't think they warn you. With O2 if you for example buy 250Mb and reach the end it stops working.

For an unknown reason I was assigned a Vodafone SIM card with my pre-order.

Yesterday I went to the Orange website to pre-order the card and was surprised to see that they want you to set up direct debit and check your credit rating.

But I went through the whole process and at the end I was "told":

Thank you for your order
Before we can complete your order, we need some information from you.
Please call us on 0500 80 20 80 so we can sort everything out.

Because your order is not yet complete, you haven't been charged and your Direct Debit mandate hasn't yet been processed.

----

Now, seriously Orange? For a PAYG option you have to check my credit score? No, thank you very much.

I had this message too. When I ordered, it was too late to call, so figured I'd call the next morning, but I lost my order number so just thought I'd wait to get one in store. Turns out though the order must have gone through fine even though I didn't call. I'll keep you posted when/if it arrives.

You are credit checked because they bill you for the plan(s) you select during the month and because you could run up excess usage charges if you exceed the limit on the plan you purchase.
