Well I bit the bullet and decided to order a Macbook pro 17 inch model. This will be the first Mac I have ever owned and I'm looking forward to it. I'm wondering if getting it this close to 10.5's release will net me a free upgrade or will Apple want me to cough up 100 plus bucks in a few weeks? Below is the fairly standard set up thats being sent to me. I went with a glossy screen, not sure what others think but I like how bright it makes things look.

MacBook Pro, 17-inch, 2.4GHz
Part Number: Z0ED
2GB 667 DDR2 - 2x1GB SO-DIMMs
Accessory Kit
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
MacBook Pro 17-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm

Congrats you will love it. Got my new MBP in today myself.

Don't expect a free upgrade to leopard as we have about two months to go.

You should consider upgrading the memory to 4 GB. Some other items to think about are a stand and external keyboard.

As for the Amiga, I sold my A1000 about a year after I bought it. Though it was one of the best machines at the time, much of its software was very buggy, including the OS. I wish that I had bought a Mac Plus immediately instead of waiting another year.

But don't do it through Apple! They'll sell you water at Disneyland prices.

My MBP came stock with Samsung memory and so I bought more at OWC.

Today it is $170 for 2MB... it was $207 for me just a few weeks ago. :( But it is still much more at Apple!

I don't know if your SR MBP has more than two slots. If it only has two and you get 2MB of memory, they will probably give you two 1MBs. If so, and you want 4MB total, you have to yank those two out and might as well give them to your cat.

4MB, WoW! :D
