I'm about to be on my clinical rotations, so I wont be in the classroom, as I'm a grad student, Physical Therapy to be exact. I wont be using it at my sites, but would use it for highlighting my PDFs of my books I've got that I will be studying for my licensure exam in July 2018.

I've got the 2017 9.7" iPad that came out in like Q1, but now I've got cold feet about keeping my Pro/Pencil/Beats combo. $400 seems like a large upgrade for something that I may not use a lot (the Pencil).

I know of the better screen, bigger size, and better sound, but I'm still unsure of the $400 upgrade. Yes, I will probably sell the BeatsX cause I've got a good pair of headphones that I use when I work out.

Can y'all help a man out? I seriously have been going back and forth on it for the last week.

You got 14 days to decide if you want to keep it or not. Only real way of knowing is to give it a shot!

If you are going to be highlighting PDFs won't the pencil actually be quite useful to you?

Unless you're on a tight budget it sounds like something you'll get a lot of use out of.

Yeah, it would but I could do that on PDF expert or something of the like on just the 9.7" one, right? I'm not on a super tight budget, but just worried about the use of the pencil. I have used the 9.7" more than I thought I would.

I think I'm gonna do that, download iOS 11 and use the Pencil to see. I have the same time frame with the Pencil (Got it at Best Buy).

That’s your best bet. You need to live with a thing for awhile and allow the smell of something new to wear off a bit, before you can really determine whether it is going to work for you or not. Your never really going to know fretting over an order status. Try it for a couple of weeks. If it is all you hoped for, keep it. If it isn’t, return it :)

Yup, try it for 14 days ( well.. 13 to be safe ) and decide then. It's a hefty upgrade from my Air 2 ( especially for the brightness, speakers, and pencil ) and a somewhat decent one from the 9.7 Pro ( my sis has this.. ) in terms of speed, the appreciable increase in display size, and RAM ..

I think you'll like it enough.

You can recoup some of the $400 cost by selling the BeatsX, and the existing 9.7 Pro, and that should ease swallowing the upgrade expense :)

Does this make any sense? Upgrading to 10.5 from 9.7 pro? What is the $400 number? Please, just make to buy and return as many products as possible!

I may have not made it clear earlier but the 9.7" is the non-Pro from early 2017. I could recoup $375 or so on it and maybe $100 on the Beats.

In probably 10 years, we won t be capable to make any decisions on our own, we ll end up chatting on forums whether or not we should wipe with 2 layer or 3 layer toilet paper.

It's what forums are for... Don't like the thread, move on..

My bad. Even so, about $375 on the iPad and I'd say more like $80-$90 on the Beats.. and you're still golden.

Yeah. It was either get the PB3's which haven't gotten great reviews for $50 or get the ones for free. I've got $250 in PayPal too, as well as $100 gift card at Best Buy (for the pencil), so that would help stave the cost.

A friend of mine is getting his doctorate and he LOVES the Pencil for note taking and marking up PDFs. His focus is in music, so he uses it a lot for music applications as well. He works off of his iPad Pro a lot more than he does his iMac, and often tells me how happy he is that he bought it. I think you'll be happy.

That's good to hear. I have a classmate who has one but he hardly uses his pencil. Maybe the novelty has left him or he has no need for it. Had I had it 1-2 years ago, I would have no qualms about it. But I'm actually kind of excited to use it for a week or 10 days, once iOS 11 downloads on it.

As others said. You have 14 days to play with it and see if it's what you thought it would be and worth the extra $. Don't sweat it. Just don't be late to return it if that is what you decide.

I think once you experience iOS 11 and it's potential to correspond with the new iPad capabilities, you will likely change your mind. The Apple Pencil will also expand the Pro enhancement with editing/sketching.

Do you use a MacBook or only the 2017 iPad when studying for collage courses? How much do you use the 2017 iPad?

I mainly use my computer but when it comes to powerpoint or Word, I use my iPad to keep down the distractions lol. I use my 2017 iPad a good bit. I think I'll give the 10.5 iPad Pro a try.

I got the 2015 iPad Pro 12.9 inch December 2, 2015 and I stopped using it yesterday upgraded to the 2017 model better screen upgraded processor So far I love the new iPad Pro 12.9 one of my favorite cosmetic upgrades is that they have a single antenna line Rather than that full black cover on the backside of the iPad I was using iOS 11 beta on the 2015 model now running that on my 2017 model and it feels so good can’t wait for final release

If I read the OP accurately, you're saying that you recently purchased the large iPad Pro? The 12.9" model?

If you still are really not sure about your decision in about a week, why not just purchase the new 10.5" iPad Pro and call it a day? It's the same physical size as your previous 9.7". You get the same size iPad as you had before, but now with all the extra features.

I believe when you make a purchase decision, you know very quickly whether or not you made the right call. If you're feeling uneasy now, and if you still feel uneasy a week from now, I strongly recommend returning the large iPad Pro. You'll probably end up regretting it a month from now if you don't.
