i just ordered my MacPro with 23" display....
I'm having setbacks, and wonder if I should wait a little longer for an update. :/
what do you say?
Well, an update is kind of expected so buy if you have to. Its a bit of a funny situation though because they might go Octo core in which case they will lose the 3Ghz model. If they did update and go octo core then I'd expect a quad core 2.0Ghz model (single chip), quad core 2.66Ghz model (single chip) and octo core 2.66Ghz model (dual chip). Something along those lines anyway. Price reductions on the 2.0Ghz quad and 2.66Ghz quad too.

so, what do I do? only a few hours till the grace priod of canceling my order.
Cancel and wait for judgement day?
The fact is, with a Mac Pro, even if Apple do announce updates in the near future, the Mac Pro is sooooo upgradable that you will simply be able to make the update yourself. Of course, you might be a bit out of pocket if they happen to knock down prices, but either way you're going to have a very good machine.
It will be interesting to see what they do. There are some trade offs between 2 2.67 woodcrests and 1 2.67 clovertown (you lose half the cache), but the chips get better priced (iirc a 2.67 clovertown costs the same as a 3.0 woodcrest).
cheers.
Ooohh bloody nutter. The MP was shipped yesterday, and there's a prediction to update today :/. Expecting it today.
BLOODY HELL! bollocks :/.
I do have an ACD going back. Maybe I should give them a call and cancel it, and reorder new ACD if there's indeed an update to ACDs.
Funny thing was, I did have a 'problem' to my shipping. Apple wouldn't specify what it was. Maybe they were trying to tell me that they're updating my system. It happened before. And I gave 'em a hard time for not shippin' it on time. (I didn't exactly yelled and cussed and such, but I told them I want it to be shipped by Tuesday). I should've let them kept it delayed, then maybe I could change my configuration.
Comfort me
Can you even use 4 cores, let alone 8?
You have to look at what you really need instead of what you can get.
Sure 8 is a bigger number than 4 but may not perform better. If I were buying today it would be the 3.0Ghz Xeon, which will be faster at tasks that aren't heavily multithreaded.
Not to mention power usage. But of course, it is my understanding that few people in the states care about such things 8 cores will chew more power.
