So I've done it. I viewed as many posts as I could, replied to posts, created threads and even PM'd people for advice.

My 17" MacBook Pro with Glossy Hi-Res screen, 7200rpm 160Gb HDD and 3 year Apple Care will be arriving on the 17th of September. Actually it's arriving this Wednesday but my friend in the US is buying it for me (ain't friends nice!) and she won't be here till the 17th.

So now I gotta wait. Gotta put those MBP thoughts out of my head. Gotta keep focused on every day activities and work. But how can I? I'm literally counting the days over here, viewing more pics and videos of my new wonder machine than I did before I ordered it.

How do you do it, experienced Mac owners? Argh! How do you remain calm when the days seem to be getting longer and longer ... :D

P.S. Will a normal 2 to 3 pin plug adapter work with the US MBP in the UK?

And will there be any problem getting a Wi-Fi signal over here? My sister's PC laptop's wirless software needed to be reinstalled for Europe in order to get it to work.

get yourself cryogenicly frozen to -273.15 and then you can defrost the 16th and you'll be fresh and ready for your new baby :D

i guess so. you an just take off the us prong part for the power brick and plug a regular power cable directly to it.

that's because it a PC  my mbpro is from the states and works perfectly anywhere i am in europe.

It's so tempting ... that's seriously something I was considering ... but then I keep thinking of that South Park episode where Cartman gets Butters to freeze him cos he can't stand the wait for the Nintendo Wii and we all know what happened there ... :D

No problem my friend, posting pics is the one thing I've always wanted to do. It's like the final step in crossing over to the Mac side. I can't wait ...

How is the glossy screen on the 17" MBP? I'm not sure whether to go matte or glossy to be honest, and the nearest Apple store is about 60 miles away, therefore not a quick journey to check this out for myself. Definitely want the high definition screen option. Would love to fit the WD or Samsung 250Gb hard drive myself, but concerned about the warranty issues surrounding this with the MBP, so will put one of them in an external caddy for portable use (have a Firewire 800 drive at home already).

How is the glossy screen on the 17" MBP?

My cousin just bought a cheap (around £400) PC laptop with a glossy screen and the amount of glare is unbelievable. Only when the laptop is positioned at an angle that's completely away from any window is the screen realistically useable - half the time I was looking at my own face.

Cheap laptop = Expensive portable mirror !

The glossy MBP on the other hand had considerably less glare - it's just an all round better quality screen in my opinion and of course the colours look great. With the Hi-Res option what more could you want? Plus I have this notion of sitting outside in the garden, working away, drinking cocktails (yeah baby) while in direct sunlight. And a glossy screen is supposed to be easier to read than a matte when outside in the sun.

I'm concerned I may use up my 160Gb quicker than I imagine, thinking of adding a bigger hard disk in the future as well. From one of the threads on here I'm sure I read that you can change the hard disk and your warranty will be retained as long as you don't damage anything, but don't quote me on that ... :)

i HATE glossy screens, my friend just got the same MBP i got, only with the glossy screen, i was sitting in his office using it with mine sitting right next to it on the desk, the reflections are horrid, and the image looks exactly the same!! i dont know what you people are smoking who think the image looks "totally awesome" compared to the matte  i just dont see it...i mean, maybe you're looking at an LG screen, cause we both have samsungs..but i dont know

Congrats! I got the same specs as you. I ordered mine on the 22nd and it's here today. Unfortunately, they tried to deliver it this morning after I left for work so now I have pick it up tonight from FedEx. I managed to wait the 2 weeks but this part of the wait is killing me! Actually, I'm feeling a little sick *cough*, so maybe I need to go home and get some rest so I'll feel better. Yeah, that's it. :p

PS...I was concerned about the glossy screen at first, but after checking it out at the Apple store, it didn't seem bad at all.

Wow, literally 5 minutes before you wrote your message my friend phoned me and told me she just got it delivered ... a whole day early! That's like rubbing salt in the wound though, knowing she's got it lying there, waiting for its rightful owner (moi) to bring it officially into the world. Haha.

Still, I'm glad you're gonna pick yours up tonight, nice to see some pics when you get it set up, especially if it's the glossy one, to tide me over ... ;)
