Hey guys,
I finally ordered my Mac Mini. :D I got it from the Apple refurb store. I got a 1.83ghz Intel Core Duo w/ 80GB HD. I just now ordered 2 GB of RAM and a 160 GB Hitachi Travelstar SATA 7200 RPM 16MB cache HD to replace the factory one, all this from OWC. I think this should be sufficient to handle most of what I can throw at it. I am pretty damn excited because it will all be going through my 37" LCD HDTV. :apple:

Good for you, you are quite brave to be modding your new toy... I get the shakes just thinking of it... I did add memory to my iMac which was easy as breathing, and to my MBpro and MB, almost as easy. But I draw the line and hard drive replacement except on the MB which is easy... so props to you. Welcome to the club.

I want a Mini but I'll hold a bit till they update them. 530 € (with discount) is just too much, but if they were updated, well it would be better. I can get an iMac for 1000 !, I have a screen already...

No, I'm not worried about that. I have enough experience in replacing cpu parts. I just hope it works like I want it too.

I picked up the same Mini.

I'm using it to replace my POS Dell...

I'm looking for a firewire enclosure so I can pull the Dell's Hard Drive and use it as an external boot drive for when I need windows.

I will post pics of this install once it takes place. If I had some balls I would swap out the chips. But I'm not gonna mess anything up. ;)

Mini is a great machine. Thats gonna be a screamer.

Installing the ram in kinda scary, I aint gonna lie. Actually cracking open the case is the worst of it. But if you go slow, and have been inside a few computers in your day, not much to it.

I have watched alot of video's on it. I have cracked open a ton of PC's in my day. So I think I can handle it. Just like you said though, I will definitely take my time and be very careful.

Not the Core 2 Duo?

First time I did it I actually put a video on my ipod and had it right there with me in case i needed to reference it. :p

There arent alot of C2D to be had on there, and the ones that Ive seen mostly have combo drives, not super.

I had a CD 1.66 myself with 2gb of ram. While I cant compare the 2 because I never had a C2D, the one I had was plenty fast enough for my needs. I now have a C2D 2.0ghz iMac with 4gb of ram and honestly I dont see a huge deal of difference from the mini I had to this one. Obviously there is, but its not like wow, that mini was REALLY slow compared to this.
