Ahhh, I can't wait to get the refurb Air! I got it from the Apple Store.

I was wondering, Apple doesn't mention anything about it, but when they say "it goes through rigorous tests" before labelled as available for sale, does that mean they change the battery or am I buying an old battery?

Thanks

That is a good question but I can't see them replacing a virtually brand new battery if there was nothing wrong with it. That's just part of the reason the discount is as significant as it is on refurbs: a few cycles on the battery, if that.

I was led to believe you get pretty much everything new except the motherboard.

Depends. Some are actually units that have had issues and some aren't.

For example, if I buy an 11 inch Air and decide to take it back 10 days later to exchange it for a 13, they sell the 11 as a refurb after checking it and putting it in a different box. That's my understanding anyway. wordoflife's link seems to verify this.

Thats been debated here and it is highly unlikely IMO. Defective, worn or damage parts are replaced but to replace everything is just not economically feasible.

To mention nothing about waste.

Apple Refurbs

I've been buying refurbs from Apple for years and never had any problems. Every unit was in brand new condition and you couldn't tell it from a regular retail version with a microscope. Along with a full one-year warranty, you can't lose.

So you're the one that grabbed my 13" with 4gb of ram... ;)

I actually wanted that one, but I clicked on the 2GB one and I was like "ok, whatever..." next morning I tried to cancel and get the 4GB but it was too late, I wasn't able to cancel the order.

Having used the 2GB I doubt I need more than that.

I'm debating selling my iMac for a MBA. The storage is really the only concern. I have over 500gb of music, movies, pictures, etc. Hoping the rumors of the MobileMe cloud locker are true for tomorrow. Then I can just shove everything up there and not worry about local storage.

Yup!

I don't really need a lot of storage, because I have a 15TB entertainment home server, where I keep all my music/tv/movies there.

Trying to convince my dad to buy me a refurb 11" Ultimate.

From what I've read refurbs are better because while the Non-refurb ones go through slight testing to make sure everything works. The refurbs go through much more testing to make sure everything works and stays working. So it's a win-win situation for refurb buyers.

Lol ;) the ultimate one is on the refurb store quite often, it's the base model with the 4GB of ram that's the rare one. That's the one I originally wanted, but thought the extra money was worth it, and even after selling my MBP, still have some left over.

I bought the 13" refurb ultimate over the weekend, and it's being delivered tomorrow! :) I'm so excited

I ordered a 11" Refurb Ultimate over the weekend as well. Suppossed to be delivered tomorrow but UPS tracking says "A label for this shipment has been created, but UPS does not yet have possession of this shipment. Once we receive the shipment, the tracking status will be updated."

Email from Apple says it'll be delivered tomorrow.

Same issue here. Called Apple and they said it's crossing the border from the USA...

Yeah my tracking status was saying that same thing too for the longest time, and at about 5pm est, it updated with the origin scan for Concord, Ontario. Then at about 8:30 it update to the departure scan, so it should be in Guelph by early afternoon tomorrow :) can't wait!

Hmm...I think I'm the one that actually took your machine. Been looking for a 4GB model for some time, and pulled the trigger when one showed up last week.

Ah SL is so fantastic that I never want to go back to windows!
