:) I am ordering a MacBook White 2.0Ghz tonight! Only extra is the 1GB ram upgrade from 512. I am also getting the free 2GB Nano with the "Back to school" promotion that just started in Canada yesterday. The total comes to $1665 + 15% tax - the cost of the nano ($205 not sure about the tax).
All this is with the education discount! Very exicted, first Mac and hopefully my best computer yet.
 
Hmm, Mine came out to be $1490 with edu. discount. I got the same thing u did, without the ram. Why is your's so much more? Canada?

Oops didn't see the 15% tax, it's 8% here.
 
Well, it is $1665 with the 2GB Ipod Nano (because you have to purchase it first and then send in the mail and rebate) so you minus $205 from $1665 and you have $1460 was the cost (with the extra ram)

i got the Nano too. The tax and ram push it up. You should consider maxing out the RAM with 2 1GB sticks. :)

I just called apple because i ordered the 1.83 macbook, and the student rebate on the macbook and Nano, IN CANADA is you only get the 1gb Nano free.. not the two gig

you only get the 2 gig if you buy a macbook Pro.. I would call and check if i were you because the guy i spoke too told me i would only receive a 160$ rebate...

EDIT: it says UP to 205$ rebate in the fine print..
EDIT2: Well my guy was a liar, i just checked again.. and its a free 2GB.. and they cant cancel my IGB because its been shipped, and i ordered it like 8 hours ago haha.. well looks like i will have to settle, returning is such a hastle, and i guess i will get some money back then!
 
Oh damn, does that mean I was correct or no? I am ordering online. Do I get the free 2GB? I was pretty sure I did.
 
I would just get the 512MB stock RAM and buy third party RAM. I had 1GB BTO, then bought the 2GB Kit from OWC and had to deal with selling the two 512MB sticks (which I sold anyways, but lost some money).

Where do you live 15% is high for tax.

Amazon.com doesn't tax you at checkout (although I think you are supposed to claim in on your taxes [use tax? maybe. something like that]).

The guy i talked to said in Canada you would get 160$ rebate. And that is enough for a free 1GB, but the website says 2Gb after you buy you Macbook it takes you too that screen. But after you click the option it takes you to a screen where you can choosee... soooo i got somewhat confused, because no where does it say the exact amount of money the Canadian rebate is. It only says up to 205$ BUT if you get a 2Gb you still have to pay the Tax so your really only paying like 30$.. if you get the 1Gb you GET BACK 33$ soo.. that only is if the rebate is 205$ you didnt think about tax did you? cause I didnt.. hahaha


and Yeah in Ontario our tax is 15% and now that our dollar is like 90 cents american its way expansive.. I mean if you buy from the Apple American website, and convert Canadian money into American money we would save like 60$ hahahaa.. i dont think you can do that unless you ship it to the states..

In Conclusion, James, Call Apple before yours ships... i tried to change my 1Gb to a 2Gb and it was already shipping, and that was about 8 hours after i placed the order... so do it quick if you already ordered..

I am a new switcher, but have been veiwing your posts here for long. I have decided to take the plunge into Mac world, so i hope to participate here more often, you guys here are excellent in helping out, which i shall require as a newbee :) . BTW, I ordered the Macbook base model, with the free iPod Nano offer. Looking forward to recieving it.
