Hi everyone im from the UK, im interested in getting the 3GS, but not from the UK as its too expensive. I understand Apple sells the 3gs factory unlocked on Hong Kong's Apple Website which turns out to be cheaper so i have a few questions if anyone can help me with.

1.Will the 3gs work in the Uk and will i be able to activate it though itunes (UK).

2.Does anyone know if Hong kong ship to the UK and if so how much will it cost for shipping and tax ect..

3. If the 3gs breaks will i be able to take it to a local apple store or will i have to send it back to Hong Kong.

1) Yes you can activate it anywhere in world on any supported carrier, if its factory unlocked.
2) No, they wont ship to UK. Your only option is to buy on ebay from a seller in Hong Kong, or if you have any plans to go to Hong Kong any soon
3) Apple offer international warranty on its products, so no you wont have to send it back to Hong Kong to get it fixed/replaced, just take it to your local apple store.

Hope that helps.

Ye it does thanks alot :)

1) All you need to do is put in the SIM card in and it should work.
2) The only way to buy it unlocked in Hong Kong is to have it shipped to a Hong Kong address; the wait list is about 2 weeks long the last time I checked and they will not ship to a hotel or something. Your only way is to buy online (not Apple) or from a local retailer.
3) iPhone warranties are not international; you will need to mail it back to Hong Kong to get it fixed.

So who has the correct answer? Does iPhone come with local or international warranty?

Do they sell unlocked phones in the UK?
You can probably bring it to an Apple store there and hope that they wont notice its from Hong Kong.
But as far as I know Apple products have to be serviced in the country they are bought in, not internationally.

It doesn't matter if the country sells unlocked phones or not, the warranty does not apply. I tried it already. Apple said I needed to send the phone back to the country purchase. ;)

i think u have misunderstood sth.

right, u can activate it anywhere with any sim card. But, Apple offer international warranty on its products EXCEPT iphone. that means if u buy it from hongkong, u can only get free repair in hongkong. If u bring ur iphone from hongkong to UK apple store, they will send it back to hongkong and u will have to pay for it.

Hongkong apple online store only accept address within hongkong area, even mainland china is unacceptable. so they wont send it to a UK address. But if u have any friends in hongkong, things will be different.

Ok then guess thats not a good idea then.. Does apple sell them in the UK unlocked? If not i would prefer to buy on pay & go as i wont end up using all txt's/calls ect..But i would prefer to use it on T-Mobile so if unlock the phone will the warrenty end?

National unfortunately. I was talking to an apple drone about unlocked italian iPhones from play.com and they told me if i had one, i would have to get it fixed in Italy.

There are shops in Hong Kong that claim to ship worldwide on their websites. It is possible to add an iPhone 3GS to your shopping basket as I have tried it and it's the same price as the Apple Store too. I have never tried sending anything from this shop out of HK because I can just walk in and buy stuff but I don't see why they would lie about it...

play.com = too expensive

Oh yeah totally, 900+ clams for an unlocked iPhone is daylight robbery, i was just trying to add credence to the issue of this exception to apples international warranty.

That's a good price. I might stop in Hong Kong.

I believe getting apple care gets world wide warranty.

Nope.
