I'm ordering my 24" Imac.

Upgrading the RAM to 2gb and the 256mb Graphics Card.

Decided just to go with the 2.16 rather than the 2.33. (From what i've read, it's not a big improovment for the extra $300)

So, I'm not sure how long it is going to take to ship, anyone ordered one recently with similar upgrades? how long did it take? (In Australia)

Hopefully it's a wicked system! I've been using pc's for ages and got a 12" powerbook a couple of years ago as my mobile system and love it, so i've been wanting to upgrade for a while now.
I've got the money now, so thought i'd upgrade.

Anway, hopefully it's good! Should last me a while even if they bring out a new design imac soon.

Congrats on the purchase, a 12" PB is what brought me into the Mac fold as well. As far as shipping times, I don't have any experiance with buying online, but there was a thread a while back where someone said it took about a week and a half for similar upgrades.

Hope that helps.

Hey!

I too, have just ordered a iMac earlier today. I wanted to go with th 24" for the video card, but in the end I just went with the 20". Upgraded to 2 GB Ram, and the video card, of course. I also stayed with 2.16 GHz processor.

As for shipping and delivery, it shows here for mine that it'll be shipped between the 3rd or 5th of April and have it between the 11th to the 17th. Hopefully it'll be quicker. I can't wait! :D

Congratulations, you'll love your iMac, I'm sure.

It's been two weeks now that I have switched from PC to Mac. I ordered a 20" iMac with 2GB of RAM, and the 256 MB VRAM too. It's one of the best buy I have ever made. The iMac is an awesome all-in-one machine. I first wanted to get the 24" but I ended up buying the 20". 24" is giant ! :D I hope you'll like our iMac ! Also, you made a good choice staying ith the 2.16 Ghz processor because indeed, for 300$ the difference between 2.33 or 2.16 isn't big ! The thing that counts most is the RAM because OS X Tiger (and soon Leopard) likes RAM memory !

PS : I am from Québec, Canada and I ordered my iMac on March the 9th and got it delivered at my house exactly a week later and it was coming from California. It was really fast, because I had also ordered iWork '06 and the AppleCare ! Hopefully you'll get yours in a week or so ! :D

Congrats again ! :apple:

Congratulations on your purchase! You made a great choice. Really the sweet spot of the iMac line!

As for shipping, I'm from Canada, so the experience I had with shipping the 24" is probably different...it was pretty much on par with what Apple said (maybe a day earlier, but certainly not a day later).
enjoy!

Grats on the purchase. I got the same setup at the beginning of this month. I went for the 500GB drive and I can't fill it up!!
You will love how fast it zooms compared to a PC/WinXP.
It took me a week from purchase on Feb 26th (sunday) to get it in my hands at 3:35pm March 5th :)
3 Days to build it, 4 days to get it here.
But I live in the opposite side of the U.S. where it was shipped.
So figure about a week the most?

Just ordered the same system...

I placed my order online on 3/27 and I just received notification that it shipped from Fremont (Northern Cal.). I'm in San Diego so it is due to arrive on Saturday. Now all I have to do is get through one more day. LIke you, this is my first MAC after 20+ years of PCs. I also ordered a Western Digital My Book Pro 500 gig external drive (arrived today).

Anxious in Coronado:D

I was speeking with apple (australia) yesterday about shipping times. I'm going to be getting a different system (macbook with upgraded ram) however the two people I have spoken too said that deliverys go to new zealand before they go to the local australians, it's to do with the cut off times for shipping thoughout the day, usualy products to new zealand get here a day earlyer and are sent via air mail however in australia they are sent via truck to there destination.

What I was told is this:

First day the oder is placed a dispatch goes to the order and tech departments (order department takes ya money off ya), the tech departmen adds the computer to the queue to make. Once your machine reaches the front of the queue (very short at the moment, may be the same day...hmmm wonder why? :p ) it will be built and shipped out the next day. The problem is that the cut off for shipping nationaly is 10am, so unless your computer is in the loading bay by 10 in the morning it's going to sit there another day (so 2-3 business days as quoted is fairly acurate). Then after that it is sent surface mail to you. Shipping times will depend on how close you live to apple hq australia.

For new zealand the cut off time for shipping is 4:30pm, so usualy the unit is in the country within 2 days max, from there it is sent next day (for me two day...rural delivery) courier.

So to new zealand it's about 5 working days, may be 5 or 6 working days in austalia. This is just going off the information I have been given. The info you have may be different.

No matter when it arives you will be getting a sweet machine. My father is about to upgrade his intire company to these machines. Now that mac's can run autocad he can run his company on them (he only wants them for the looks). :apple:

Grats on the purchase.

However, I don't get how you can be so excited knowing that a new model will be released in 3-4 months at the latest

Am I missing something?

I'm in the same boat - placed an order for a 24" yesterday.

While I know updates are due at somepoint soon I need a replacement machine now. What swayed me to make the purchase was the fact an update could still be several months away and that the machine I've ordered meets (and exceeds :) ) all my requirements so I won't feel that I've lost out.

I've upped the RAM to 2GB and grabbed the high spec graphics card. As an aside I'd have bought the 20" if the 7600GT had been available for that as well .. Also, given the cost of the thing, I decided to take her to 2.33 despite the expense - if I'm already spending £1500 odd why not stretch that little bit further and go to £1700 ?

So now I'm just awaiting delivery - think the estimate was 11-12th April.

you'll love it!

i just switched from a pc to an imac. the difference is amazing! boots faster, tighter integration between programs, drag and drop the way it should be. i also purchased an airport extreme and everthing works.

i just could not bear an update to vista. i am a convert for sure.
