I'm finally getting around to organizing my photos a bit more before my new MacBook Air arrives and before I move everything into iCloud. My question is I have a bunch of old albums from iPhotos and Photo Stream that are sorted into albums with the Month and Year (and a bunch of other old albums that are named odd and disorganized). If I delete these "iPhoto Events" in the folder on the left side menu, will I lose the pictures too, or will they just go into the "Photos" bucket of my library?
Also, are there any good guides out there to help me maximize my organization skills? I have close to 10,000 photos from the last 20+ years. Probably pales in comparison to others, but I'd like to get the most out of them.

Make sure you have your 3-2-1 backups before you start moving things around in case disaster happens.

Hi tardman91,
Happy to hear you are working with your photos. I have over 15yrs helping folks with photos so here are some tips.
1 - Backup your Apple Photos library. Ideally to iCloud, Time Machine, external hard drive. HDFan is right, one backup onsite, one backup offsite so 3 sets total.
2 - All your Albums reference the originals so you can delete any Album and your pictures remain in Photos. To check, click on any album, click once on a picture you plan to delete, right-click on that picture and choose "Show in All Photos". That will track it back to the date the picture was taken. Go back to Album, delete the picture, check within the year/month and it should be gone.
3 - For clients that did not label their "Events" in iPhoto, I delete the full set of Albums within "iPhoto Events" and start fresh to organize into Folders and Albums.
Go for it!
