ORICO PFU3-2P Not Mouting Harddrives!

Hello everyone!

I bought a ORICO PFU3-2P PCIe card to get USB 3.0 to my Mac Pro!
It is in Slot 4.

It is recognized by "System Information". When I first connected a self-powered external hard drive to it, it would mount but would automatically dismount and lose power after a certain amount of time, maybe 30 min - 1 hour.

Now it won't even mount and I've tried with 2 different external hard drives which both work on Mac Pro's original USB 2.0 attachments on the case itself.

ORICO is supposed to be able to run unpowered by a cable but it seems like it needs power since it isn't powering up anything OR it is for some reason sleeping?

When I connect a USB to it, the harddisk recognizes that it has been connected and starts making noises but it won't mount...

I'm running the latest OS X.

If I DO need a cable in the end, can anyone help me by telling me which I need to buy? I heard you can take power from the optical drive cable and into the ORICO which is a 4 pin female!

Sounds like you may have a bus-power issue with your external drive, and may need to provide power to the card as intended.

There are several thread topics already posted here which go into great detail on ways to accomplish this, including photos, parts, and sources for the cables which may aid you in getting your system working as desired.

You will need a powered usb 3.0 hub or run a power extension from the optical bay. If you ever want to use PCIe SSD etc in future for upgrades you would need power brought there so I would run the power cable extension from the optical. Thing is, ORICO is supposed to be self-powered, which it is!

UPDATE: I moved the PCIe to Slot 2 instead of Slot 4 and now it's much more stable although it still loses connection at weird random times.

I read somewhere that Slot 2 gives out more power than Slot 4 and that could be the reason for the better stability!

I will just get the power cable as that is what you both are suggesting!
