Rather than scare you off, this is an Apple Site, and Origami is a Micro Soft project. If it's a M$ product that works with or on an Apple product, then people will likely help you.
I will try to point you to a better place. Origami is not a PC, but rather a loose set of protocols for a UMPC, Ultra Mobile Personal Computer and its integration or use Windows and Vista.
Yes you can add more software. Perhaps
this Micro Soft forum is the place to post your question.
This forum is also a good place to look for help with Microsoft products. MacRumors is a good place to get help if your useing or looking at a Apple products.
This thread is MacRumor's thread on the topic of Origami. So far, there are few UMPCs that are for sale and well integrated with Windows. There are none for
OSX- Apple's opperating system.
Below are my comments copied from the above MacRumors Thread.
Intel has some pages dedicated to the
Origami/UMPC platform. A
UMPC,
Ultra Moble Personal Computer pdf. It looks like the form factor is likely variable, and it may have more than one manufacture down the line. I can't tell if Intel is just hyping UMPCs or Origami... Actualy, Intel notes nothing about Origami, people are just linking to the site as though they are.
They have 1 cool picture and 1 ugly picture of a UMPC.
Perhaps they are just mockups, the ugly one looks real.
Gizmodo and
The Cool Hunter note this UMPC, which is small and cool looking, runs 2 processers in serial (for power saveings).
Week 1,
Week 2,
Week 3 From M$ Origami Project- not all links work yet.
A letter from the unnamed editor of M$ Development site about mobile computing.[/URL] Talks about share of each kind of MS Os on mobile devices and where M$ plans to go with their mobil os's.
The YouToob video of The Oriamiproject link from M$ Origami forums.
The upshot, who cares. UMPCs are here now, and here to stay. M$ want's seamless integration of hardware and software for DRM.
Origami not so ground breaking anymore.- I hope M$ proves me wrong. I wish Apple would enter the UMPC market.
Perhaps you should ask, "What computer should my dad get that is small and made by Apple?"
Apple users are a friendly sort, as a whole, but there are thoes that are rather single minded and rather agressive. People wouldn't refer to Apple users as "members of the Cult of Mac" if people wern't so devoted to Apple and it's products. They make good hardware and software. And there are lots of bennifits to using a Mac with OS X.
I hope this helped.
Cheers.
