Wondering how many agree that original AirPods are the best design. I tried AirPods Pro and those were hurting my ear and getting uncomfortably warm. Now I bought AirPods Max to try, those are heavy/bulky and also get warm. I guess the sound is nicer, but not big difference. I will return them.
I really hope they don’t change design of the original!

100% agree for me. Looking forward to AirPods 3 being even better. I like using my AirPods Max for music and movies while sitting, and AirPods 2 for phone calls and music/movies in bed or moving around.

I like the noise cancellation and the fit of the Pros. I had the originals but didn’t keep them as they wouldn’t stay secure in my ears.

Right there with you OP

I've retired my AP1's from 2016 and am a few weeks into a pair of AP2's.

I'll likely get the AP3's if they didn't screw them up.
For me, the open design is essential. If they make the AP3's too "plug like" it will ruin the product.

I have all four. They are simply different design points. I like all three for different purposes. Also have the BeatsX, which are still best for exercising.

I have three pairs of wireless earbuds at the moment, and I've tried many more. (I have a problem.) If there's one thing I would tell folks who are looking to buy it would be 'ignore what others say about fit.' Buds that some people can't wear for more than 5 minutes or that fall out of their ears will be incredibly comfortable and secure for another person. You can listen to what people say about features, battery life, etc., but when it comes to fit it's a completely unique experience.

When it comes to AirPods I agree and think they're great. Overall I prefer AirPods Pro with foam tips, but the one-handed ease of OG AirPods can't be beat for my ears.

I was really blown away by spatial audio when watching Star Wars, but I can’t get the AirPods Pro tips to fit in my ear the right way. I always feel like the AirPods are not quite in my ear and about to fall out. It’s hard to explain. The original AirPod design just hung in my ears nicely. Never, ever felt like they would fall out. I don’t know whether my AirPods Pro issue is due to the rubber tips or the more bulbous design of the earphone. Either way, I don’t know if I’ll keep the AirPods Pro, or return them and hope AirPods 3 are more fitting.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I bought some Comply foam eartips, thinking they might help with the AirPods Pro’s fit. Did anyone have any success in that regard?

EDIT EDIT: Comply ear tips helped ever so slightly, but I’m still returning the AirPods Pro. I’m deciding on buying AirPods 2 or waiting for the 3’s.

I tried the AirPods Pro for a few days, but that plug-like feel didn't work for me at all. Transparency mode mitigated this somewhat, but since its strength can't really be adjusted, that wasn't an option. And even if it was, I just noticed that the open design suits me better acoustically. I would just like to sometimes be able to simply adjust the strength of the ambient noise that comes through.

Yes I think the Pros sound significantly better, but the cons outweighed the pros for me. Therefore, I remain a satisfied AirPods non Pro user. They sound relatively balanced in my view and have surprisingly good voice and detail reproduction.

I agree, I mentioned in another thread. But after 18 months, the AirPod Pro experience has been very poor. Have had them exchange 3 times due to the rattle issue (which I strongly believe every set of Pros will develop at some point), they keep falling out of my ear, doesn't matter which tip size I have on.

If you are looking for noise-cancelling earbuds look somewhere else, but for simplicity the original Airpods are unrivaled. I wish I hadn't sold mine when I got my Pros.

Purchased a pair of AirPods Pro March 2020 but I am having constant problems pairing with my iPhone X and it's a constant battle, and yet my original AirPods are more or less faultless. Also agree about noise cancelling on the pro, to me it's marginal compared to wearing the original Airpods. Would I buy another set of AirPods Pro?, definitely not. The original Airpods sit nicely in my ears and very rarely fall out where as the Pros especially the right ear tends to come loose after a short time.

I just purchased AirPods 2 wireless with the $129 Amazon deal. They arrive in early September. I'll hold onto those while we await the AirPods 3 update in late September, and then decide to stick with the 2's or go with the 3's.

The upcoming AirPods Pro firmware update suggest the ANC will be more aggressive
