Just ran into a great deal today on an unlocked iphone 2g.... :)

There is no 3g coverage in my area and I would not be able to utilize it anyways with T-mobile. Should I just go with a 2G or pay a lil more and get a 3G?

I do not want to sign up for a contract through ATT obviously, so my only option is T-mobile.(I'm not gonna pay 20 bucks a month for the 100mb option Gophone Plan.) Now I remember reading about the old Tzones hack and as I understand it, it is no longer a viable option. I do not need any calling features, I only need data. So what is my best option through T-mobile? I have been reading about the total internet plan. Would that work?

I have been jailbreaking the first gen ipod touch since it came out, but I am not very informed about iphone jailbreaking and activation. So whatever option you suggest please explain in detail if you can.

Thanks :D

Getting an iPhone 3G with T-Mobile isn't going to help you at all. Remember, T-Mobile doesn't have compatible EM waves with the iPhone's 3G radio.

Any iPhone you get will be stuck at EDGE (unless Apple makes a T-Mobile version of it)

3G would not be useful on T-Mobile, so I would just get the 2G.

The only thing different that 3G added was GPS, and 3G. And you won't be able to utilize 3G, so it wouldn't make sense paying extra for it.

For some reason I thought the 3G might have been a faster processor but I guess thats just the 3gs.:p

Ok so now what? Pick up the first gen iphone and ....?

I'm just wondering how people who use tmobile are doing it......

The 39.99 total internet plan looks great to me. Instead of getting a phone I will just get the simcard and pop it into the Iphone. I just want to confirm with someone, or a few people that this does work. I do not want to go spend a few hundred bucks and it not work and have no way to return it.:D

Sorry, but the 3G and 1st Gen iPhone have the same hardware (except the EM radio)

Just to clarify....

I do not have an account with T-mobile.

So what would be the best way to go about getting only unlimited data for the iphone without having to shell out more that 40 a month or commit to a long term contract?

I don't understand what your trying to do?
Just Internet and email? No phone calls or texts?
You'd have to call them and see if they offer that.
You'll have to unlock it either way.

Yes I already have a phone through verizon that takes care of calls and messaging. I just want a phone that I can use to check email and browse with. I work/am in school 80 hours a week and most of the time do not have wifi to use with my ipod touch.

This is the plan I'm talking about:

http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Plans/...b1&rateplan=T-Mobile-Total-Internet-Rate-Plan

I was able to go to checkout and where you have to select a phone I was able to select a sim card and have it shipped free to my house. I'm just wondering if this will work with the iphone, or if anyone else has done this.

Ya I really could care less about the GPS I use G-Map US East (App Store) for that. Check it out!

So this seems like it should work? Just order the sim card with the unlimited data and pop it in an unlocked 2g iphone and I'm good to go?

Well I just found out they do not do one year agreements with the Total Internet package. Any ideas on some pay as you go internet with Tmobile?
