I was just wondering if any one knew the policy in regards to exchanges with the original iPhone. I currently have an 8GB original iPhone, which has a dead pixel on it. I've read in past posts that Apple is pretty lenient (for lack of a better word) in these types of exchanges. And yes my warranty should be still intact, I purchased an extra two years through the Apple Protection services. Also, I was wondering if they would replace it with another 8GB or the 16GB model, after all I payed $299 for the original 8GB, which is the same price as the 16GB, and I would like my money's worth.

Apple keeps a these old models in stock until about 3 years after the discontinuation of that model because at that point, no one' s product of that model could be under warranty. They do not upgrade people when replacing and you are getting your money's worth because you are getting the same product as a replacement. If they did upgrade you, I'm sure they would give you the model that corresponds best to the one you used to have, in this case, the 8GB.
Just curious but when did you pay $299 for the 8GB model. I only remember the 8GB model going for $399 and $599 originally. They did sell the 4GB model for $299 for a little while just to get rid of them when they discontinued the 4GB original iPhone.
