Hi,

I have a 2010 21.5 iMac, with a 20" Apple Cinema Display connected as a secondary monitor through a MDP-DVI adapter, which works very well. To it, I have connected a Lacie Rugged 2TB hard drive through the FW800 port, where I store Time Machine backups and my media files.

I am considering using the iMac as a home security system, and complement the internal iSight with an old FW400 iSight webcam so that I can cover another room. My question is how to go about it on the hardware side.

I only have 1 FW800 port on the iMac, but the Lacie hard drive has two FW800 ports so I could daisy chain another device through the second port. Also, the Apple Cinema Display can act as a FW400 hub, as long as it is connected to the iMac using the included FW400 cable.

Presumably, I could connect the FW400 iSight directly to the Apple Cinema Display, and then the ACD display to the second port of the Lacie FW800 hard drive (with a FW400-800 adapter), which is then connected to the iMac's FW800 port.

-Will this (somewhat convoluted setup) work?
-Will daisy chaining the FW400 device through the Lacie FW800 hard drive slow down the transfer speeds of the Lacie device?

Thanks a lot.
