OS 10.15.7 Released Today

Well, a new version of Catalina, OS 10.15.7, was released today:

As usual, one can upgrade through Software Update. But I prefer to do the "upgrade" myself. Surprisingly, via this link:

I was able to download the full, complete version from the App Store. It's been a long, long time since I've been able to download a full version of the Mac OS from the App Store. Recently, I've ben using dosdude1's patcher to do that.

Excellent question. I am waiting to see if anyone has issues with any applications. When Apple released OS 10.15.5, it caused issues with both SuperSuper! (SD) and Carbon Copy Cloner. OS 10.15.6 fixed those problems, so am a little reluctant to move to OS 10.15.7. Of course I'll wait until after I do my SD backups on Saturday.

I believe you can install macOS server (https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/os-x-server/id883878097) on one Mac and then use that to download & locally distribute software updates to your other macOS & iOS devices. I don't do it myself; but it may be a good fit for you...

Thanks for the informative update. And yeah, I am also avoiding Big Sur. I will install V11.1 on an external SSD for testing, but given that Tech Tool Pro will not have a version compatible with Big Sur until December or January, that is when I will install Big Sur on both of my Macs. Most likely, it will be V11.3 by that time. In the meantime, Catalina is working fine for me.

No issue on my 2015 13" MacBook Pro.

I don't know if its an issue but usually when I use MBP 13 2015 Safari with fet tabs and apps for work (not heavy) I don't hear any fan noise, maybe a little tiny bit. But after yesterday update to 10.15.7 fan is spinning like crazy, CPU load to 90-95% abd temperature going up almost a 100°C.
Somebody facing issue like this?

I feel somehow reminded of a certain other OS maker. Though the year does not add up.

Sounds good! I'm leaning towards doing a clean installation of OS 10.15.7 on both of my Macs sometime tomorrow, or on Sunday. I of course will first do my weekly SuperDuper! backups for both of my OS 10.15.6 Macs tomorrow.

Maybe try doing a SMC reset.

I used the 10.15.7 combo update. After the install I reset SMC and PRAM.

I've used Combo Updaters before (in fact I use them if I do not do a clean, fresh installation), and never needed to reset the SMC and/or PRAM. Why would that be necessary?

Just habit as to avoid any potential issues that might arise.

Very 'funny' (?):
I got 10.15.7 spontaneously but had to update Numbers and 3 more apps by hand from App Store,
my wife got those 4 App Store updates automatically, but had to 'ask' for 10.15.7
How the difference?

Btw.: I always avoid the first release of a new OS (i.c. Big Sur) and even the first correctional update.

Strangely it renamed a file on my desktop and deleted another from a folder on the desktop. I think it was probably iCloud related, the deleted file was larger than my available iCloud storage. None the less it shouldn't have happened.

In addition:
- every update to Catalina on my iMac creates a useless link to "Relocated Items" in which sit ONE
file I don't recognize and a few hundred explanations in every language, which still don't explane it.
- this NEVER happens on my macBook or my wife's iMac.
- referring to my previous message: my macBook is also being updated to 10.15.7,
BUT:
- I had to 'ask' for the update,
- half way I got an invitation to update to 10.15.7 (?!?)
- and the mentioned 4 App Store apps DO NOT GET UPDATED.
Even when I try to 'grap' them from the App Store
I don't understand this at all.

I have to pluck up courage every time I do a MacOs update ever since the fist installation of Catalina bricked my iMac by splitting the fusion drive (so the tech said).

Updating today gave me a stressful minute or two..... was installing and got down to "less than a minute" where it sort of hung for like 5 minutes. Then the screen went black.... and nothing else happened! I sat there for what felt like an age hoping to see it do something - restart, anything, and it didn't. Rather than press the power button, I just wiggled the mouse and..... Yay..... the screen came on with a banner asking if I wanted to join iCloud Analytics. All back to normal.

I could really do without scares like that!

Wondered that myself, but it's the same old Number-Letter-Number scheme. Evidently the last number is unusually small because, for whatever reason, this release didn't warrant doing as many internal test builds as usual.

Appreciate all the comments, information, etc. I am going to proceed with a clean, fresh installation of OS 10.15.7 on both of my Macs after I complete my disk cleanup/maintenance/repair/backup tasks this afternoon. I'll report back how it goes. The one big potential "fear" I have is with SuperDuper! backups, although except for the OS 10.15.5 update, it has never been an issue.
