I've been reading about the features in 3.0, and for iPhone and (to a lesser extent) iPod Touch 2nd Gen, it makes sense to upgrade.
I don't, however, see much benefit for 1st Gen Touch owners to spend $10 for 3.0.
Am I missing something? (I'm not going all gaga for cut and paste, either. I really don't care about it.) Ten bucks buys a lot of apps (or two of Khalid Shaikh's  krapps!)

As a non-American resident I have to ask: Is $10 alot of money in the States? It seems like iPod Touch users are always complaining that it's expensive to update. I had a Touch when 2.0 was released and thought that it was pretty cheap to upgrade.

3.0 is superior in all ways to 2.x. I see no reason why you would not spend 10 measly dollars on upgrading.

$10 is about as much as an old movie cost on iTunes. Or, 2 cheap value meals from McDonalds.

Personally, I think it's worth it, but I'm getting it for free anyway. (woot, iPhone)

For an entire OS upgrade it seems like a great deal to me. Nobody requires you to do it. Maybe I'm just too used to thinking in computer terms, but $10 is really small change. Eat peanut butter and jam a couple days instead of going out and you've got it.

Push notifications would be the big deal for me. If you are happy with the apps you have and don't add others frequently, and don't have so many installed that it is cumbersome to manage them (and the 3.0 spotlight won't help you), and it is giving you value, I'd leave it alone.

Me personally, I'm upgrading.

Upgraded Safari and iTunes, landscape keyboard, Note syncing (finally!) and Spotlight, and to a lesser extent cut, copy & paste and push notification mean that I'm more likely than less to upgrade my 1st Gen iPod.

i have a 1G iPod Touch and i'm on 3.0. before i upgraded i didn't think it was going to be worth it but now that i did i think it is. but i don't think it's worth $10. maybe around $5. but that's apple, sometimes they overcharge IMO and sometimes they undercharge IMO. i would've paid $20 for 2.0.

I can't tell you what something is worth to you but while I have not updated my iPhone I do have an iPod touch 2g with 3.0 and here's what you get:

-spotlight and mail search
-autofill safari which is slightly faster
-push notification (which will be more useful with the iPhone since it is always connected to the web)
-voice memos (which is pretty much useles to a Touch)
-copy/paste
-use of your YouTube account w/ comments

All in all I think it's worth the price but just barely. They key feature for the touch is spotlight and copy paste. The rest you can live without. I would say spotlight is a necessity because it is a pain to go through numerous pages for an app
