So much for all the Flash hate for ads, now we will get to see all the ads and still not be able to watch video on our favorite websites!

Apple's planned mobile ad system should be a part of what it shows at Thursday's iPhone 4.0 event, a leak asserted Tuesday night. The platform, which may not be called iAd as rumored, should have its first details discussed in addition to features of the next mobile OS. Features of the platform weren't part of AllThingsD's escaped details.

Hard to imagine they would want to talk about ads at an event like this. Stranger things have happened though, I suppose.

I bet it's going to be an SDK for developers for their apps.

And Apple will get lots of data on your app usage from it...

So now we get a commercial every 3 minutes from inside our apps...I think it is becoming fairly obvious why Jobs has been pushing HTML5 and not wanting Flash on the iPad...He doesn't wan't any competition for his ad platform. This is pretty disappointing to me. :(

"The average user spends over 30 minutes every day using apps on their phone. If we said we wanted to put an ad up every 3 minutes, that's 10 ads per device per day. That would be 1billion ad opportunities per day."

"This is a pretty serious opportunity, and it's an incredible demographic. But we want to do more than that. We want to change the quality of the ads too."

"We've taken some brands that we love and made some ads for them... we made some fun ads, these are not endorsements."

"Here's some news... there's an ad for Toy Story 3 down there... it's a great movie Disney is putting out. I've seen it, it's a really good movie!" Ha! Big laughs. "So all this is done in HTML5 by the way." Ouch! More laughs for Steve.

How is it strange that Apple wants to announce developer-related features during an event focused on developers?

Apple haters seems to be more irrational than any other haters I come across. We already get ads on our apps. They are ugly, and take you out of the app. So now things will be the exact same, but the ads will be better. If one does happen to catch your eye, you don't need to leave the app. Ads are already on the iPad. Now they're more intelligent and perhaps some will even be enjoyable.

I can't believe how such a simple system can be misunderstood by so many people.

The way some people are talking about this, it's as if advertising never existed before today. Steve Jobs did not put advertising in your iPad and he is not going to make it any more or any less intrusive than existing advertising already is.

iAds, create flashing, moving, annoying, distracting ads for your app, so you can create an "ad free" version for more money. I would give up multitasking to avoid the ads. :apple: fail.

This is exactly how it already works! iAds changes almost nothing other than how the ads (again, that already exist) look.

The ignorance over the whole iAds thing is mind blowing.

I have to say the main reason I don't click on ads in Apps is the exact reason Steve gave. You end up getting tossed to the browser or in the case of ads for other Apps sent to the App Store.

I'd be much more inlined to click on Ads that look and work like the ones he demoed.

I'd be much more inclined to click on Ads that look and work like the ones he demoed.

Those are my thoughts exactly. I actually had a few ad supported news apps that I deleted and paid for ad free apps because i was tired of accidentally hitting the app and getting sent to safari, thus loosing my spot in the app. With these new ads, I don't lose my place in the app. Not to mention that I might actually purposely click on them because they look kind of cool.

You apparently do not own an iphone with any free ad-supported apps right now. (Or any other smartphone in the world for that matter)

I thought so at first. What happened is they had all of their hater arguments blown out of the water and are blindly latching on to this iAds without spending even a millisecond of time trying to understand it.

It's called "advertising".

Clearly this thread was not created on an iPhone or iPad because the auto correct would have saved the thread creator from making a fool of themselves. My suggestion: buy an iPad, it will help your spelling.

I totally forgot the "accidental ad tap of doom!" that is one of the most annoying reasons and seems to happen all the time since the ads are usual right above a tab bar.

Following the live blog updates made this seem much worse for iPhone users until I watched the entire Keynote. It's not armageddon. Some of the ad demos were pretty cool, without the annoyance of switching to Safari.
