Os 9 Boot Cd Problems

my imac g3 DV has had system folders corrupted somehow, and i get the question mark?icon flashing.
i have bought 2 DV boot cd's for os 9, and when i boot holding c, nothing happens.
how do i fix this?

....curious about the 'nothing' that happens when you hold down C on startup...

- Do you get the Mac startup sound then the ?-mark folder?
- When holding down C, does the CD drive try to read the disk?
- Can you hear the hard drive spinning up?

positive on all, i think.
the cd sounds like its trying to read at first, then it runs at full speed....
he folder/? comes after jingle....
and yes i can hear the hard drive.


at one point after pressing buttons i got a blue scren with a curved arrow on the left and a straight arrow on the right...
when i pressed each of them, the cd would run, and then nothing after that was done...

??????

i know for sure the disks arent the problem. theyre definatly the right ones.

That's the boot drive selection screen... get that by holding alt/option on startup. The CD drive should have been an option (it sounds like it was), and depending on the condition of the hard drive it could have been an option too.

I'm unsure why nothing happened after that screen. The computer should have started up from the boot CD and proceeded with software restoration. Clearly that didn't happen.

Maybe be the RAM isn't seated properly? (but if that were the case, you might not even get the startup jingle, dunno)

Can someone else give suggestions...

Maybe give zapping the PRAM a try.

"Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys."

ive done that a few times.
im gonna check mif the ram is installed right.
