Hey Folks it's been a while since I've had to pester you and I hope I'm on the correct forum. Now, I need your help...

I'just installed Catalina on my MBP. I had been using Sierra without any issues, I just felt I should keep up with the OS's.

The install went good and everything is good except App Store. Here's the issue.....

I open the app, a drop down box asks for my Apple ID and it contains a very old Apple ID that we stopped using a long time ago.

I click in the box and change it to our current Apple ID and password which works everywhere else. I hit enter and I'm told that my new Apple ID is not valid.

I go into the App Store, find it's account info screen, and what is listed is our current correct Apple ID.

BUT, when I reopen App Store at the bottom of the left hand side of the page shows the OLD Apple ID and when I get the password dropdown it also shows the old ID.

How can I 'nuke' this App Store and reinstall it? Or can I go into the app's files and delete the ones for account name etc????

Or, does anyone have other suggestions??

Thanks.....

It's possible that this is due to you having something installed on your Mac that was purchased with that old Apple ID.

Try going into App Store preferences (App Store menu > Preferences). If Automatic Updates is enabled, disable it and see if you still get the password requests. If that fixed it, then you have some choices:

Delete the app(s) purchased with the old Apple ID, then get them again using your current Apple ID. This is fine for free apps, maybe not so good if you paid significant money.

Or keep using that old Apple ID in order to keep getting updates of those old purchases.

If my suggestion doesn't fix things... There's not a way to 'nuke' the App Store to fix this. It's likely not something in the app itself, but the overall "environment" on your Mac. You'll probably need help from Apple support.

ApjelKuchen,

Large thanks for the good reply. I did all you suggested, but still AppStore home screen shows 'Old Email' address and Apple ID is good on it's account page.

Our current Apple ID works with all other things.....

My plan is to boot to my external CarbonCopy external drive, erase the MBP HD, then install the external's copy. Once I get all that done I'll go into App Store and see what gives. If I succeed I attempt another Catalina install.

What a @*$^A drill.....!
