Hey all! Just got a quick question here!

You know by pressing option key during reboot takes you to OS selection display which has all OS and recovery partitions. But how to set this as default? Because Im using it in clamshell mode and an external keyboard wont work during restarts. I need to switch between OSs frequently and don’t want to take my mac out from the stand and open the lid every time.

Thanks!

and i know you can always choose which OS to boot from system preferences. But I just want to have the option to choose from the start screen.

There’s no way to do this automatically unless you install a custom boot loader like rEFIt I’m afraid.

even a terminal command couldn’t do this?

Not to my knowledge, the boot loader is essentially firmware which loads before any OS commands, so Terminal command wouldn't do anything. I'm not sure if there's anything in Single User Mode which loads beforehand but I'm just guessing at this point.

The only way I know of is through a custom boot loader. Sorry. Hopefully somebody else can be of further assistance.

Thank you! I think I'll just attach a USB keyboard to save the hassle.

Unless you "know what you're doing", DON'T be fooling with "custom bootloaders" or anything like that.

Just press the option key and start up that way.
Could save you A LOT of trouble.

Yup, thanks for advice!

Im gonna do some research on this bootloader thing, gonna make sure Im 100% aware of what Im doing. Otherwise Id better stick to option key.
