I have an iMac 27 inch 2.8ghz i7 with 8gb 1067mhz ddr3 ram, running 10.6.8

I want to update some of my software and really should update the OS

I'm going to up the ram to 16gb while I'm at it.

Are there any problems specific to the older iMacs with Yosemite?

Are you saying MS Office 2004 will or will NOT work with Yosemite...?
Thanks.

Office 2004 is a PowerPC based suite. The earliest version of Office that runs on modern OS X releases is Office 2008. It's worth noting that iWork '08 and '09 run on Yosemite.

Uhm, that's a "no"?

I've been operating MS 2004 on OS X 10.6.8--is this OS NOT modern....?

Thanks,

10.6.8 is the last version of 10.6 aka Snow Leopard, which was originally released in 2009. It's a 6 year old OS, with no more updates.
