Hello --

I have just updated to El Cap GM and a folder called "Previous System" now appears on Finder. I googled about how to get rid of it, but when moved to the Trash and trying to empty it, a message pops up saying that "some items are in use".

Do you folks happen to know a workaround for this? Deleting this folder would make me save gigabytes on my MBA SSD.

Thanks a lot!

Mark.

Hast thou tried a reboot? Might be similar to the issue we sometimes get with documents failing to delete from the recycle bin.

Thanks, but yes. I have tried and the issue persists after attempting to empty the Trash, so I have to put the folder back to its original location.

It is possible that Spotlight was still indexing your drive, and indexing an item in that folder.

Move it to your trash can (not the recycle bin as mentioned in another post).

Reboot

open Terminal and type this :

sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*

Press Enter, enter your password, press Enter again.

Thank you -- but after running the command, I get a lot of "Operation not permitted" messages, so I'm still unable to delete the folder.

Spotlight is not indexing my drive.

You should be able to delete that folder after disabling SIP.
I don't really like that solution, however.
I boot to another system. My mini can boot to Mountain Lion, if I need it.
So, put that Previous System folder on the desktop, then booted to Mountain Lion. Deleted the folder easily from the Desktop folder in the appropriate user folder.

That is a good option. I think if you boot from another drive, you can easily delete from the root of he hard drive as well. I did not think of that. I just dragged mine to the trash, and input my password as prompted. No hassles for me.

Is your username set up as an admin account or a normal user? That may cause an issue, if you are not the admin.
