I recently upgraded to OS X EL Captan (10.11.! ) from Yosemite. On several occasions my screen has turned black and has turned itself off. I get an error message that there is a problem hit any key to turn back on. Also very slow keep getting the Rainbow wheel and have problems with Outlook email.

Has anybody else had this problem? Help!!!!

Yeah, I ran it on a MBA 2013 11" (1.7/8/256) and it ran HORRIBLY! Spinning beach balls.. constant freezing, just a complete nightmare. I've never had an issue when upgrading OS X in all of my years of owning a Mac (and I always upgraded immediately), but this was so bad that I've gone back to Yosemite and I highly doubt I will be going to El Capitan anytime soon.

No issues what so ever with mine. I do a complete clean install, but this time I just did an update. I have no older junk on my system that some others do.

If you run into Beachballs, kernel panics, or other major issues, it is likely you have an issue with your machine, and doing a wipe and reinstall (or restore from TM) will likely solve the problem.

I have had the same beach balls and freezing issues with 10.1.1. I'm not a tech person so if someone could let me know how to go back to Yosemite I would very much appreciate it. I probably should do a clean install but worry about loosing files. I have JustCloud and it backs up daily. Should that be enough?

Assuming you regularly backed up your laptop while you were running Yosemite, all you gotta do is wipe your MBA clean and install OS X fresh from the last backup you did, and you'll get Yosemite back. I don't know anything about JustCloud, but it should be doable.

Downloaded El Cap update last night, on my early 2008 Mac Pro with 4gigs of ram. 4 hours later I was up and running with no hitches what-so ever.

Same lack of drama upgrading to El Cap over Yosemite on my late 2008 17" MacBook Pro, 8gigs ram. Just did the normal clean up of both computers before the downloads.

Both computers are running faster than before. No spinning balls at all.
Aloha!
