I currently have a late 2013 13 inch Retina MacBook pro with a 2.6 GHz intel core i5, 8gb of ram, and 512gb of flash storage. I am currently running 10.9.5 (Mavericks) and I am having some issues. My issues are wifi issues. I am having issues with wifi not working at all or working very slowly. I already know it isn't my wifi router because my other devices (iPad Air 2, iPad 3, iPhone 5s, and iPod Touch 5th generation) all work like normal on my wifi connection. I thought maybe it was the wifi card in my Mac or whatever it is called that was going out or something so I ran the Apple Hardware Test on my mac and it came back with no issues. I can restart my Mac when I am having wifi issues to get wifi working like normal again for a little while but I am starting to get very frustrated. I have kind of ruled that my wifi issues must have to do with Mavericks on my Mac. Should I upgrade to El Capitan and see if my wifi problems disappear? I am nervous about upgrading because of all of the bad reviews on the App store. All of the bad reviews is the reason why I didn't upgrade to Yosemite last year and the reviews for El Capitan are worse than Yosemite. I currently am a student going to college and I need my Mac to work when I need it. What should I do? Does anybody have any other reasons why just out of the blue I am having wifi issues?

Is there anything I need to reset? I was kind of looking up my issues more but could't really find anything. Does resetting the PRAM do anything? I have no idea what to do. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

OS X 10.11 has a reimplemented WiFi stack, so there is a good chance that an upgrade might fix whatever problems you are having. Ignore the bad reviews, they are not representative for the OS X user base, as they are being left by people who have encountered issues. For instance, if just me and my colleagues and friends who are happily using 10.11 would leave a review on the swiss Apple Store, the ratings would visibly change. Besides, the El Capitan adoption has almost caught up with Yosemite one, if there were truly major problems with 10.11, the reaction would be very different.

If you have a proper backup, you can always go back to 10.10 should you experience some issues.

Thanks for your response. Which Mac do you run El Capitan on? Do you have it upgraded to 10.11.1. The reviews for 10.11 were a lot better before 10.11.1 was released.

There are always bad reviews of new operating systems (it was the same for Mavericks) it seems the millions of people who have no complaints are not motivated to do reviews. So yes it is stated by Apple that El Capitan has better WiFi management but personally I have not seen any difference, but mine was working fine in Mavericks and Yosemite however.
Try this first. Go to your WiFi icon on the menu bar open Network Settings > Assist me > Diagnostics > Use your current location and select Continue > follow the prompts. You can also create a new network by selecting Advanced. You can always go back to the old Location and or delete the new Location.

Personally, I run 10.11.2. We have a bunch of computers running 10.11 and a bunch running 10.11.1, most of 10.11-compatible models are represented (including some older iMac models and pre-retina MBPs). So far, no substantial issue was reported. I have also migrated our Mac Pro server to 10.11 recently, works like a charm.

When I run the diagnostic it says that my connection is ok and there is nothing wrong with it.

Does 10.11.2 improve performance or can you notice a difference? I think I might just have to upgrade because I can't keep dealing with these wifi issues. I don't understand why I started to get issues now even though I never had them before because I have been using Mavericks for a year and a half now.

I didn't notice any difference between any iteration of 10.11, all versions here very smooth for me. It seems that .2 update slightly improved 3D performance, but that is only relevant for gaming.

I have the same computer and plagued with severe wifi issues and network performance in Yosemite. In El Capitan these problems 90% solved but the network performance is still slower than Mavericks.

I still get the issues on the same platform too.
Not as bad, but still there.. pretty poor really for a closed eco system.
