OS X Meltdown

Guys, I really need help and dont know where else on the net to ask.

My mac G5 was working the other night, I loaded in software for a wireless USB devive I bought from ebay. The computer restarted and it seemed ok but now it just wont switch on - dont know if the software has anything to do with it or not.

It gives me the grey screen with the apple logo on it but then the Operating system just wont boot up. It stays on the grey screen and then the fans come on and go into over drive. I tried inserting the one of the disks I got with the computer but it wont accept it and it wont eject either.


Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know what I should do? Can I reset the computer any other way, even if it means losing everything that was on it?

I'm really upset as my baby son was born on wednesday night and I cant even email or print any of the photos I took.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try rebooting with the install disk in the drive while holding down C. the once that boots(im assuming it will) go to disk utility(in on of the menu bars) and repair disk permissions. I would think that would work.

The driver you loaded is probably killing the machine.

You will probably have to boot into safe mode (hold shift key) and wait while it takes forever (could be 10 minutes) to boot.

Safe mode boots without a lot of the 3rd party drivers, startup items, etc.

If it boots, you can find the stuff that you loaded and drag it to the desktop -- or use the uninstaller if there is one.

Alternatively creating a new user may also work if you cannot fix the mess the driver did.

I think D is hardware test so from how it sounds, that should work as well. (not for repairing permissions but to see if something else is wrong).

Make sure you don't have weird devices connected. Then do safe boot. What does it say in verbose mode? (where does it stop?)
