OS X photos never coming out?

Did Apple scrap the OS X photos app? I cannot find anything on their website about it anymore.

That website says "On the Mac, catching up on the action is as simple as opening iPhoto."

Did they change the time frame for this?

Still waiting! Discussion here, https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1820594/ but its all rumour and guess work at this stage I'm afraid.
